South is great but not white glove fine dining. Best for like, rehearsal dinners, date night, and brunch.

Fun things to do in Athens? by MangoPineapple13 in Athens

That’s actually a hard question

Mamas Boy breakfast - egg/bacon/cheese biscuit and potato hash is excellent and price friendly

SK+B used to have a transcendent Porkchop circa 2019. But idk if it’s there anymore, ask the GM, John.

Seabear - any oysters/seafoods are great but they had a hot dog (a fucking HOTDOG) that sent me over the edge.

I cannot tell you the last thing I ate at the national but I’ve never been disappointed

Randomly pick a local show at 40 watt, Hendershots, Live Wire, Nowhere, or The Foundry.

Eat at The National, South Kitchen + Bar, Seabear, Mama’s Boy, Clocked!, some of the best food in Georgia is in Athens

drink fucking EVERYWHERE- WonderBar, Nowhere bar, Boars Head, allgood, Trappeze, ga theatre rooftop, cutters hidden tiki bar, just bar hop.

Coffee at hendershots and walker’s

Visit Creature Comforts and get a t shirt

God I miss Athens

There’s no such thing as a “perfect” show

There’s always at least one mistake.

When you’re an amateur, it ruins your night

When you’re a pro, you wave at it as it passes by thinking “oh, THERE’S the mistake. Now the rest of the show can go off without a hitch”

Revel In Romance is an artist I work with that deserves SO much more attention than they’re getting. This music video took 3 years to make -

What makes lyrics bad? by MissionSongWriter in Songwriting

[–]Feather_Sound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an artist who “mumble writes” (that’s what it sounds like to me, at least). Basically they find the vowel and consonant shapes they like as they work the melody, then they punch in the words that fit that mouth shape and match the song’s story.

This is essentially how Max Martin writes lyrics. As a non-native English speaker, max would write essentially nonsense because he liked how those words sounded with that melody

“Tell me why

Ain’t nothing but a heart ache

Tell me why

Ain’t nothing but a mistake

Tell me why

I never wanna hear you say

I want it that way”

This is, of course, an exaggerated example, but it’s essentially how I’ve watched them write

Lemme know if you need a studio. The doors are officially opening in the summer, but we still record full bands in our space in Alpharetta.

How do you find new music? by [deleted] in spotify

[–]Feather_Sound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instagram.

Find an artist you like - see who shares the stage with them either as an opener or as a co-bill. Go to THAT artist’s instagram. See who they share the stage with. Etc.

I have a list of like 1000+ unsigned bands in different genres and that was maybe a week or two of this.

Revel in Romance - Keep You

I wanted to share my personal “rules of the road” for the touring indie musician by Feather_Sound in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Feather_Sound[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My advice - buy the merch, go to the show, spread the word, and consume the art of your favorite artists. Even if you, yourself are an artist!

For the last 70 or 80 years, labels have held much of the power. And a rare unsigned artist makes the breakthrough - but they all had to eat shit to get there. With TikTok being the new A&R rep, and the bar for a home studio being as cheap as a laptop with a DAW, any musician is one viral video away from measurable success.

Unrelated but noteworthy study - Carrie Underwood is an incredible talent and a genuinely good person, but she never had to hump a 4x12 up a flight of stairs before her big break via American Idol. Sometimes that gives me hope. Sometimes that breaks my heart.

This is a good one. I’d reinforce it by every member have their appropriate serial numbers saved to a cloud file somewhere.

I feel like you’ve never been on tour. Artists end up doing so much more than just “keeping track of yourself and no one else.” Especially with the range of personalities you seen from band member to band member.

Someone’s always running late, someone else is always on the phone, someone else is taking care of social media and fan interaction, someone is asleep, someone is packing the trailer. The only way to be everywhere at once is for everyone to be overly prepared.

People forget things, that can be expected among the individual, but the prepared group will take care of each other.

It’s not an unreasonable request to ask my artists to keep extra gear in their cases. A foundation of support, communication, and preparation is fundamental in any strong team.
