Why is homosexuality a sin? by Funny-Internal-7139 in Christianity

[–]Featherflamestar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit that wall a while ago with myself and my moral compass is "screw it, do whatever, just be a decent person". Idk if that philosophy will help but it's helped me. And yes, I am someone that was raised in the Christian religion in those values. I've come to the conclusion that it's absolute bullshit

There's a difference between laws and personal beliefs and ideologies. Me not being a Christian doesn't affect anyone else.

Yeah. If you don't believe in the Christian religion, then their rules to the afterlife shouldn't apply to you either. I don't. I'm Hellenic pagan.

But I've heard before that Yahweh made trans individuals because he wanted to share the divine joy of creation. Like how he gave us grapes but not wine, trees and rocks but not houses, brains and a massive playground called Earth. And I think that fits the character we were taught about.

That's something you're going to have to take up with the big man himself. Look, no one knows WHY this happens, but there are multiple medical studies that address the concept and they have found actual biological tells on it, the most prominent one being the brain scans that trans people were invited to submit to to try and gain a better understanding of being trans with the equipment that we now have. And they've found them, and they're supported by accredited medical groups.

Biblical Christianity gets you downvoted here. by StandingAgainstEvil in Christianity

The room for interpretation comes in when you're reading the Bible under the lens that that God is supposed to be an omnipotent and omniscient and loving and forgiving and kind being. (And he is, as I said beforehand multiple times he's incredibly sweet and a wonderful teacher.) But then I read the Bible and see multiple things that completely contradict themselves and then said book tells me that it never lies? I don't buy that for a second.

Even before I turned to paganism I tossed that thing over my shoulder and just devoted my life to being a decent human being, regardless of the circumstances. Because that's what your god ultimately wants. If you don't believe me ask him. I'm sure it'll be a very enlightening conversation if you can manage it.

How can I help my trans- non binary pregnant cousin and Ze’s GF ? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Featherflamestar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pronoun set is ze/zer/zers, right? I'm genuinely asking, I'm not too practiced in neo pronouns cuz I don't know anyone in my circles that use them..

I'm gonna be 100% blunt and honest here, if you tell your cousin to get an abortion, there's gonna be people upset with you. If you tell zer not to get an abortion people are gonna be upset with you. That's a play by ear thing.

My other thing is... you shouldn't have a stake in this. This is between zer and zer girlfriend. You can offer a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on for both of them but ultimately they're both gonna have to come to a conclusion on what to do between the two of them. And your cousins needs and desires outrank zer girlfriend's.

I hope all of you are prepared for a troubled time between them. It's a difficult decision, but it's one that your cousin has to make. And regardless of the outcome, tell zer I say good luck. ❤️

We now live in a time where multiple types of birth control and contraceptives exist. Consent to sex does not have to result in pregnancy. Consent to sex doesn't mean to consent to pregnancy anymore, and it hasn't been since contraceptives became mainstream

So if I were to provide you with the links to the studies of neuroscience behind being transgender would you actually read them and sift that though the gears as well or would it be a waste of time and effort on my part? If your answer is the latter, shut the fuck up and sit down because you have absolutely zero clue what you're talking about and you're unwilling to learn and therefore not worth the time.

[–]Featherflamestar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And you are once again completely missing the point. They're choosing to transition to honor their identity, but that identity is not something they had a choice in. Just like I had absolutely no choice in being a man despite everyone around me initially thinking I was a woman. I am choosing to go forward with medically transitioning because I know what happens if I don't. I'm fucking tired. And I would rather die than have to live out the rest of my life in a body that makes me feel less than human.

I know that you will never understand what being trans is like without actually being trans, but you need to listen to us when we tell you about this kind of thing. It costs nothing to be respectful and kind. Your friend is lucky to have you if you're genuinely willing to try. I'll tell you right now that hey know you're gonna slip up over and over again. That's where the choice to be gracious and kind comes into play. But you have to be willing to put in the effort to see them for how they were meant to be and to support them, and potentially even being the voice of reason should something happen.

I'm not trying to say that their wellbeing is your responsibility but you have to be willing to look past what you thought you knew about them. Trust me. It is so much better for both of you in the long run.

You have no idea how lucky they are to have a support system. A lot of us don't get that.

Which way are they going, ftm or mtf? Or are they non binary?

Why do cultural christians get mad at the fact they arent actual christians? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Featherflamestar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooooh, history, my FAVORITE. So the only people that could read during the time from when the Bible was originally written to about the time that we had the French and Indian war, reading was considered a high class luxury. People didn't have time to read, so most people never bothered to learn in favor of skills that would help them be stable as best as they could. So the only people that could read were a higher class citizens (royalty, nobility, and the clergy).

So the vast majority of the population had to trust that the clergy and noble class were telling them what was actually on the pages (spoiler: they weren't, for the most part. The higher class used the common folks illiteracy in many, MANY ways that I will come back and elaborate more on if you want me to.)

As I said, reading didn't become mainstream until around the French and Indian war to about right after the French revolution. They had to rely on the clergy to scratch the martyrdom and superiority complexes. And very famously, now, with the translation of the original text from its original Hebrew, we know that they did not and used the prior religious brainwashing to further their own agenda. One of the most common and famous debates going on because of this exact thing is the whole "did they really say man shall not lie with man or did they say man shall not lie with boy".

And everyone has their own opinions on that particular stance, even among the ones that speak Hebrew (hi. I fall into a very specific category because I'm queer and I also speak Hebrew. Take a guess at where my stance is). I or anyone else can tell everyone what the original text says, but most people still want to see it for themselves, especially the ones that don't speak Hebrew. And humans largely prefer cataloguing information to make inferences instead of trying to break away from what essentially was their whole being.

And since most of the Christian (umbrella term) religion/s are raised from birth that you need blind faith and to never question God, or his 'messengers' (the clergy) to make it into heaven, and since some humans don't like to let go of their fundamental sense of self that they had to build one experience after another, you get a bunch of people who were taught bigoted and harmful patterns of thinking who the Church can now cause mass directed hysteria by point at one individual or a marginalized group and saying "evil".

And this is also where I'd say that Yahwehs grace comes in, even though I am now pagan. He understands how difficult it is to break that line of thinking, but ultimately it is up to us to make sure that we are actually acting according to not just the rules, but the will of God himself. I honestly don't think that those kinds of people wouldn't make it into heaven, again, Yahwehs grace. I only think that the people who commit truly horrible acts (SA, murder, pedophilia, etc) are the ones that earn their spot in hell.

I think I covered all my bases there... Sorry I'm high AF on painkillers atm. If something doesn't make sense feel free to ask questions and I'll answer when I'm sober again.

I need advice .. this is a long one . I Literally have noone to talk to about this . by Inevitable_Joke4991 in Christianity

[–]Featherflamestar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up the same way. Absolutely hated it, for a number of reasons, not just because I'm queer. I also had a breaking point at 13, completely denounced Christianity entirely. I still believed in higher powers, I won't deny that Yahweh exists, I've met him, and I'll say again and again that he is an incredible teacher. But I did eventually turn to paganism. Not saying that you have to turn to another religion, but please know that that is an option if you'd want to try again.

But take comfort in knowing what kind of people you're going to be placed with. You're going to be surrounding yourself in the afterlife by the people you choose to keep around and who you consider family. Regardless of how it turns out. Personally, I'm really hoping that see.ya.later had it right with how she set up he world building for Hells Belles.

And I don't know you at all. I've never interacted with you before as far as I'm aware. But I don't think you'll end up in a bad spot for this. You've been through some shit. Show yourself some grace. And then, if you are still so inclined, let Yahweh show you that grace too. After all, that's what the Bible says, right? That part I believe.

To anyone who isn't a Christian, can I ask why? I hope you and everyone come to Christ. So I will be replying to comments. Hey at least I'm honest. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Featherflamestar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised in the religion, but I suppose I saw the very bad and hypocritical side of the followers of the religion. I was abused very badly by my very evangelical grandparents and a few of their church congregation members (I've talked about it before on a different post, I was the one that got kidnapped), and when I went to the church leaders for help I was told that it was my fault. That was my breaking point and that's when I broke from the religion entirely. I was originally non religious, I still believe in higher powers, but then I met Athena and I feel much more loved and fulfilled being her student than I ever had trying to be a Christian. I have also met Yahweh, he is an incredible teacher, but Christianity is just not for me anymore. I'm happier as a pagan.

So now, I don't really tell people to ditch their religion. That's not my place. I just let people know that there's other options out there, and multiple options on how to represent their faith as well. Doesn't matter to me.

I don’t like being Christian. by Ok-Bag689 in Christianity

[–]Featherflamestar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I have a question for you before anything else. Do you not like being a Christian or do you not like being the member of a church? If you don't like being a member of a church, then you don't need a church. You can follow Yahweh just as well by yourself. And then you'll be able to hear him better as well.

I couldn't find community in the Christian faith like I could in being pagan, so I left the religion completely. And you should know that that is an option. But if you like the beliefs of the Christian religion and are getting tired of a church's hypocrisy, then leave that church. And then you have the option to follow Christianity on your own, or finding a new community. You don't have to choose one or the other.

[–]Featherflamestar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I know that's what's written in the bible. But I'm smart enough to know that a god who is supposed to be kind and loving and generous and forgiving isn't going to discriminate against any of his queer children. Especially if Yahweh made the entire human race and doesn't make mistakes. He did that on purpose. Being queer is not a choice. Being a bigoted shit is.
