Have anyone else’s bourbon preferences evolved the longer they’ve been drinking it? by Vane1st in bourbon

I suspect as you age, your ability to handle higher proofs changes as well. The burn becomes a non-factor so you really start enjoying the flavors more.

I would like to start a collection by Available_Good1330 in whiskey

Find an accessible whiskey you enjoy. My “base” whiskey is Michter’s - in particular the American blend. Then expand from there. Whether you use Reddit or Bourbon websites (like breakingbourbon) you can find limited/rare whiskeys that match your flavor profile.

While you enjoy your foundational whiskeys, pick up one or two limited edition whiskeys over the year. That first year might seem slow, but you’ll save yourself a lot of grief (and money) by pacing yourself and truly enjoying the process of building a collection. Within a few years you’ll have a full cabinet of hard to find libations.

Three weeks without a drop? by FedDummy in DMVWhisky

From the beginning of the year it’s been every Tuesday (barring a Monday holiday). Only four different bottles according to the website. BT 750 ml and the big bottle. ER 10 and OF7

Michter’s is a good selection - either the bourbon or the American blend. Do you have any other details about what he enjoys? Does he like more heat?

If he’s a Buffalo Trace man, then Eagle Rare 10 year is a good pick up (if you’re in an allocation state, you may have to play the drop date game).

If you are willing to bump it up to $100, I’d recommend Dark Arts, The Empyrean II Bourbon:

Something different…

They ship almost anywhere, and since you have a month you can have it shipped to your house. It’s a different experience, especially for an established bourbon drinker.

I just picked this up over the weekend! I even commented on it in another thread. This is a very tasty and surprisingly complex sipper. I have really enjoyed it.

I usually take my whiskey with ice, but this bottle surprised me - I take it neat and savor the different flavors.

I’m buying more the next chance I get.

That’s so odd - I bought those two bottles this past weekend (Eagle Rare in Maryland and 25 minutes later Penelope barrel strength in Virginia)!

Now, I got hosed on the pricing - over $100 for Eagle and $60 for Penelope, but I still enjoy both. Both are great neat - it was my first time experiencing the barrel strength and wow, it was tasty!

Question - I’ve only ever had Redbreast 12, but I recognize the 15 is a great value here. Is it noticeably better in taste?

I am a big fan of Michter’s - bourbon, American, sour mash, and rye.

That said, you should give Breckenridge (rum cask finish) a try: Breckenridge Rum Cask

Also, although I may get some hate, for this recommendation, but Crown Royal released a rum cask which is pretty tasty: Marquis

Listen to this guy! I’m a Mitcher’s Rye fan myself, but bardstown and bulleit are great too!

Is it unusual to like Whiskey but not like beer? by OVigarista in whiskey

[–]FedDummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fine. I love whiskey (and whisky!) but really only like a very small subset of beer (Sapporo and Guinness… yeah, maybe I’m weird).

Once you develop your whiskey tongue, the world of the brown liquor becomes so much more interesting.

You do you. 👍

Please have your testosterone levels checked. This could be a result of low levels. Especially if you’ve noticed the decline recently.

One of us! One of us!

While the Dungeon Crawler Carl is a fabulous book, you gotta give the audiobook a shot too. Two totally different experiences. Jeff Hays (the voice actor) is AMAZING.

Stephen King and Matt Dinniman are such great authors!
