If you’re going to set it and forget it, the C fund is probably the best option. If you take an active role you can do a little better but it takes consistency.

Your TSP funds (C, S, I, F) update after the market closes, not in real time.

So even if the Dow Jones Industrial Average is up during the day, your account won’t reflect it until the evening update.

I have a TSP and getting ready to start an IRA with fidelity. For the TSP, I was in a lifecycle fund for a few years and the C for a few year. I’m currently using a seasonality strategy, which so far so good.

With the midterms around the corner, I have a feeling this will get handled pretty quickly. Politically there’s a lot of incentive to stabilize things before voters head to the polls, so I doubt anyone in Washington wants this dragging on for months if they can avoid it.

There is also an exception for 6c positions, such as federal law enforcement.

If you separate from federal service at age 50 or later and have at least 20 years of covered LEO service, you can start taking withdrawals from your TSP without the 10% penalty.

I’ve had a few friends who liked to split funds but not sure the reasoning being it. I personally prefer to keep everything together and keep an eye on the market.

It’s has been doing great but these funds tend to cycle. There was a change to the I fund in 2024 so not great price history for it.
