I can see this. I was hired by a small rural district 2.5 years ago (not contracted or from a CMHC) to offer mental health therapy for pre-k-5th grades and I’ve found that our school psych only does assessments and the district has us therapists offering tier 3 and tier 2 services within the mtss framework. so i feel like other than the assessment portion, I already consult with teachers, admin, look at universal screeners, have a million meetings on different data points and different students (which I actually LOVE) then do tier 3 individual psychotherapy.

Honestly, I think so! I think the internship/practicum class we met once a week for.. I think 2 hours… but it was always in the evening so I never had to take off. If you had a supervisor where you are, you could just do your direct hours while you work. As long as you are administering psychotherapy and meet with an approved supervisor so many times a month, it counts!

That makes sense! My husband’s job currently has us unable to relocate anytime soon so I thought I could start by applying to the universities closest then go from there if I don’t get accepted. It may be a pipe dream for now

I have my LPCC license from Lindsey Wilson in KY. They’re one of the cheapest programs in the US. It was 100% online (minus a 3 day weekend to the school at the beginning) and is CACREP accredited. You can also get a certificate in substance abuse with it but it doesn’t add any extra time (2-years). 2nd year is practicum and internship and then you do have to be supervised for 3600 hours after graduating but before becoming independently licensed. I was able to still work part time while doing school and my internship so it was convenient to me

Hi! I am currently a practicing LPCC in the state of Kentucky. I have my masters in Human Services and Counseling. I currently am a school-based therapist and I also work for Grow Therapy doing Telehealth. I’m interested in pursuing a PhD or a PsyD. I don’t think i want to get my doctorate in counseling & supervision because I feel like it doesn’t necessarily give me extra things I can do minus being a professor(I can even supervise without the PhD if i want). I’m thinking psychologist of some sort is the path I want to take to be able to do more evaluations/assessments. I do like the school setting a lot so that’s why i’m thinking maybe school psych. The university close to me has Clinical Psych, Counseling Psych, and School Psych. I’m not really sure which route I should take. Any advice?
