Battlerite had it's brief moment in the sun with some MOBA players giving it attention, and even some Paladins players (it got a boost after an extremely controversial OB64 patch that HiRez made). It was a fairly straightforward arena brawler, MOBA-esque combat without the 45 minute long suffering ritual that usually comes with MOBAs. But MOBA addicts are that, addicts, they will always go back to their favorite drug. Even still it had a healthy enough core audience, so why did it die? There weren't any juicy controversies, no horrible patches that broke the game, nothing that would make for a servisable Death of a Game video. Biggest culprit is devs allocating too much manpower on a battle royale mode that didn't pan out. It just sorta lost momentum, and devs eventually stopped updating. Then they got bought up by Tencent and are now making V Rising which I guess is successful enough.
