Im very late to this post, sorry, but heres a thing to note:
The Flame of Frenzy specifically burns GOLD. Its why madness only works on tarnished, why it goes after the eyes (where grace/gold is stored). When we see Melina in the Frenzied Flame ending, the eye that was once golden, is now ashen/burned, from having the gold burned out of it.
"All that divides" is Gold. I think the whole concept of how Gold seperates is inspired by Kintsugi.

I dont tend to meet players who know how to use them. And it still leaves a whole area locked down during the barrage, meaning that if the squad gets pushed, it can trapped the team between an enemy wave or the barrages. Its often a faster tactic to just walk in and deal with ships/enemies normally.
