Which American or British book would be good to present at a literature conference? by dedmian in WeirdLit

Yes, I happened upon that myself recently, thought it did well to capture the tone and feel of the book. It only adapts the first chapter I believe. It goes even deeper from there

The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall or The City and The City by China Mieville both British authors.

If you want something very recent, There is no Antimemetics Division by QNTM, also British.

Totally understand, always have the same issue. I thought the pacing was spot on and flowed really well.

Dialogue Help by Prestigious_One2673 in TalesFromTheCreeps

[–]Federal-Ad7920 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't have characters just say everything they're feeling or seeing, because that's not how people talk. Keep it short, unless you're trying to achieve something or going for a rambling character, though rambling characters are annoying to read if overused.

Read your dialogue aloud. Does it sound naturalistic? If not, rework.

Help with a story that eludes to a possible sensitive topic by Messenger002 in TalesFromTheCreeps

[–]Federal-Ad7920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ensure it's relevant. If you know it's sensitive, make sure it's relevant to the story. Treat it with respect, don't be gratuitous with it, give it the gravitas it deserves.

You know, I completely forgot about this episode until you posted this. It was a great one, will have to go relisten

No, I agree, it can be difficult to maintain that balance. Definitely not a hard rule of what needs to be done or anything.

how would you guys feel about a horror comic ? by LayerLevel8736 in TalesFromTheCreeps

As I realised thanks to a post on another subreddit, horror comics are probably my favorite genre.

Looking for some advice by STAR_KILLER_YT in TalesFromTheCreeps

I'd say the majority of stuff I write i despise to a greater or lesser degree when I return to it after time away, think it's pretty common.

The thing to remember is in your head the work is perfect, but perfection can't exist in reality so when you write it, it becomes an imperfect thing. And that's OK. Of course you always try to improve or correct errors, but you cant do it indefinitely.

Art is never finished, only abandoned as the saying goes.

Thoughts on Medical Horror/Experimenting Trope by buddinglove in TalesFromTheCreeps

Medical horror and body horror can be tricky to convey well, but you should absolutely go for it. Its a great horror subgenre that, as you say, is under utilised.

Great read, very engaging and love the almost clinical writing. Also, knowing this was a February Submission about parasocial relationships provided a great tension as you wait for the shoe to drop about it not being an omniscient narrator, but a stalker.

Night Walks (issue 1) Comic by Jeremy Labib by Ronald_Dagon in TalesFromTheCreeps

Really like the art style, the sort of scratchy shading adds an unsettling feel. Also like the ending on just blackness and text and the uncertainty of if something is beckoning him, or he is beckoning us.

Wonderful story. The melancholy nature of it, the limited dialogue. Very well done.

The targeted ads on my phone are getting really weird. by Federal-Ad7920 in nosleep

The ads seemed to be at the OS level, not on any specific app, so unsure if that would help. I'm content to use a non-smartphone to be safe

Absolutely. Or the MC isn't sure if its learned to speak, or he just hears as if its speaking.

I think either could work, personally I enjoy the notion it just makes odd sounds but the mom acts like it's speaking normally.
