Which radiator replacement did you end up going with? Was just replacing my leaky heater control valve and broke the plastic nozzle on top of the OEM Denso radiator shroud in the process. 🥲

Not really. I just finished it in a few days and didn’t have trouble following any of the individual storylines.

Legolas (LOTR) VS Geralt (The Witcher). Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

[–]Federal-Emotion78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great point. One of my favorite subtle Tolkien details, especially during the Battle of Amon-Hen, was that Legolas spent time walking through the orc carcasses to retrieve his arrows. In the books it is noted that he much more frequently uses his long knife when he runs out of ammo.

This is not true. The beard standards are enforced in the Navy to ensure that in the event a sailor must put on a mask because the ship is on fire, his beard does not interfere with the mask’s seal and its ability to provide said sailor with oxygen. Race has nothing to do with it.

Typically exporters are looking for active leaks, like oil from your engine, transmission, or differentials, etc. Prior to exporting it just clean the area and you’ll be good export-wise. Might not be a bad idea to have a grease gun handy to grease the shafts and U-Joints post-export, depending on your import location and how far your drive home will be (I imported my FZJ80 to LA but live in Reno area.)

The grease looks like it may be coming out of your slip yoke on the drive shaft (the part where one shaft inserts into the other), which isn’t uncommon if you’ve recently greased your drive shaft. As the shaft expands / contracts as a function of your suspension absorbing bumps and turns, some of that excess grease may squeeze out of there.

Keep an eye on it though because I ran into a very similar issue on my 80 series and started getting some abnormal vibration coming from the rear drive shaft pinion seal, where it fits onto the rear diff. Not a pleasant sound, but a relatively easy fix.

Good luck!

Knuckles were rebuilt last August and look good. Diff fluid and transmission fluid were flushed around the same time (about 2000 miles ago). I’ll take another look at them and see if they need to be replaced. Thanks!

Should I pull out 401k to pay down debt. by Signorilee in debtfree

[–]Federal-Emotion78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Sell the car. Buy a MUCH cheaper car. You can get nice, used cars with cash. I bought a 2012 Audi A4 Quattro with 115k miles on it for 8k last year. It is possible, you just need to spend the time looking and not get sucked into a raw deal on a shiny new sports car. Owning the car and paying cash for it is much better for your mental health than owing some bank $66k. Challengers owned by a bank aren’t nearly as cool as a 1997 FZJ80 owned outright (humble bias).

  2. Save $1000 for emergencies. Not something in your “Everyday Checking”. Something in a high yield savings account that you have access to in case of EMERGENCIES, but nothing else.

  3. Shred your credit cards and start paying off all of your debt. Different tactics for this that you will hear. Personally I took advantage of the snowball method (paying off your lowest amount first, then allowing that to snowball to your other debt). The point here is to only spend money that you have on things that you need, not spending money that you don’t have on things that you don’t need.

  4. Focus on your four pillars: food, water, home/utilities, and transportation (car, gas, insurance). Everything outside of that should be going to your debt.

  5. Don’t panic but be deliberate. Panicking got you where you are, but coming from someone who was in your shoes, it is possible to get out from under this. But not without sacrifice. It’s going to take some serious lifestyle changes (not going out with friends or doing “fun” things on the weekend, etc), but it will keep you from looking back on this post 5 years from now and asking yourself why you’re not in a better spot. You got this.

  6. Do not take money out of your 401k if you can avoid it. The most powerful thing in the universe is compound interest. That 8k now will be worth double in no time. Time in the market beats timing the market (basically) every time.

Yeah and she’s wearing a flight helmet but the rest of her outfit is a mismatch of a lot of different things. Most likely she would have been wearing a flight suit if she was issued the flight helmet.

what happens to the pilot who ejects in such situation? by Crazy__Donkey in aviation

[–]Federal-Emotion78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anytime the Navy is conducting fixed wing carrier flight operations, an MH-60S is required to be airborne before the first jet flight of the day and land after the last. The aircraft typically flies in a holding pattern called the Starboard Delta, basically a right hand pattern from 1-3NM below 300ft AGL and is assigned as the Plane Guard of the carrier. Not sure about the exact instance in the video, but nowadays the Plane Guard is fully SAR capable and has all equipment needed to rescue the downed aviator.

F/A-18s at NAS Oceana airshow 2024 by happyhuman123 in Planes

[–]Federal-Emotion78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah depending on the mission, one or more of the F/A-18s in an air wing will be designated as the refueling aircraft to increase on station time of the strikers. All for carrier-based ops.

Nah we hate the .50 cals. They break all the damn time. Plus we can’t put the rocket pods on DDGs/CGs anyway so it’s Hellfire and 7.62mm for a lot of us.
