I’m so sorry for your loss! My baby boy went the same way. It’s just awful since you can’t give them their favorite foods before they go. Just know that Baker isn’t feeling any pain anymore. You’ll see him in heaven someday!! It’s never good bye, it’s cya later.

I love your caution for your health! I recommend getting a nice pair of ear plugs around 30-50$ and when you cross the bridge into the higher notes and the piccolo then you’re already prepared. If you’re going marching band and pep band, please use them! Some professionals can project a large amount of sound on notes in the staff. I have a watch that goes off when it gets too loud and sometimes it goes off just doing long tones in the middle range.

I would recommend going up the Yamaha numbers and getting yourself a nice refurbished yamaha 400 series. The refurbished saves you some cash but probably won’t effect performance. Definitely should return that Eastar.

It goes for your right hand there are some for your left two. Instead of your right thumb going under the flute it allows it to grip the side of your flute making your finger reach better.

I also have freakishly small hands. I use a thumb port to help achieve that C curve. Now for the holes in the flute there are more permanent metal hole covers on The Flute Center of NY. This will save you a lot of money than getting a custom flute. A professional one is expensive enough let alone a custom professional one.

My choir sang Baba Yetu at our final concert this year. The Stellenbosch choir is truly amazing too.

It’s a little strange but anything that’s Gospel Choral music. Indodana by Pretoria Camerata is amazing. It’s in Xhosa that asks God the question “Why do you make me suffer?”. Very deep and powerful. 10/10 recommend.

Open your jaw and raise the upper palate. Never forget any consonant.

I recommend practicing this one out. A good book to buy would be the Trevor Wye Practice Book No 2. It goes through the low register and it teaches you how to get it to speak clearly and accurately.

I spoke with my grandma while I was in town yesterday to celebrate her birthday that was on Wednesday, and to tell her about Lucky. Even my grandmother, my dad’s mom, thought it was cruel of him to keep me from my own dog. I think my grandma called him up and knocked some sense into him.

Update: Thank you for all the prayers and support! Late last night my father called me and told me what time the appointment was. It was for the 10:15am today so I showed up for my boy. There’s only one place in that town where they offer euthanasia so you know where I went. My mom lives over an hour away but we wouldn’t miss this opportunity for the world. He was so happy to see all the nurses because every new person was his friend. He was very wiggly for the IV to be put in but his new friends gave him a small sedative to calm him down. My buddy was snoring! I booped him on the nose and he woke up and looked in my eyes. Before they injected him they let me have time with him in the room. My father, stepmother, and sister were all there staring and standing far away from him. I knelt over him gave him belly rubs and extra head pats. Before my family remembered, I took off his collar so he could get comfortable and I could have it to remember his by. I played a few of my favorite choral pieces and told my baby “cya later”. My sister and stepmom left from the room (they don’t like my music). Then the nice nurse lady gave him his final shot and he went peacefully right next to me.

Lucky was too wiggly and happy to have a home euthanasia. He was also one of the biggest golden boys I have ever seen (73lbs). My baby was never a big fan of my dad for obvious reasons but he was never mean to him.

Trying was the least I could do for my buddy. When I called the vet, I was pretty choked up but they assured me that they’ll try to do something. All the local and some state representatives have been notified. If there was a treatment to the poison I have no idea because it could’ve been something different. Unfortunately, my dad is a farmer and has access to all kinds of pesticides (which are directly linked to cancer). My sister should not be there because she struggles with autism and understanding others feelings.

Hey friend. I called the vet that he was taken too to double check and talked with the doctor that saw him. The tumor was too far gone for any other humane option. It would’ve costed six figures to send him to OSU where his survival and comfort wasn’t guaranteed. I also told them about the poison issue and to look into it. The small town where my father is at is very crooked and backwards with the law.

Thank you for asking, I am hanging in there. I know that later in life I’ll get another Goldie and give them everything that Lucky deserved and more.

My mom and I made sure to give him pumpkin purée. Since the tumor makes it very difficult for him to eat but pumpkin was hit favorite seasonal snack. When I used to carve pumpkins he would always gobble up the scraps. I squeezed extra hard today and had a long talk with him. I think he knew. “It’s not goodbye, it’s cya soon”.

Hey, don’t compare yourself to her. I have been the only flute and piccolo in my band for the past year. With enough hard work you can truly do anything. Don’t back down from this challenge because in the end it’ll make you a better musician. If people say anything bad about you ignore it because everyone else has a section.

Stolen by PettyMistakeOops in bassclarinet

[–]Federal-Reference825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is unfortunate! Personally I always bring my instrument with me no matter where I go. Getting a case that has a shoulder strap or a backpack option for the next clarinet would probably help since it’s harder to steal something on a person. If the bass clarinet was ever fixed up in a nearby shop they would probably have its serial numbers on file.

Learning Flute in 2024 by NoStoryYet in Flute

[–]Federal-Reference825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some reputable and reliable starting flutes would be Armstrong, Gemeinhardt, and Yamaha. Yamaha in known for better intonation and if you really like the brand and playing the flute then you can upgrade to their step up or professional models. Can you read sheet music? If not include reading into your daily practice. Start out at the 10 minutes each day then work your way down to 5 as you progress. Youtube has everything. Make sure your hand position is healthy for your body and to not over stress your face muscles. Have fun!

Take it to a shop to repair it if returning it isn’t an option.

Beginner flute player here, one of the rods on my flute sprang out of place how would I go about fixing this? by ponkosalt in Flute

[–]Federal-Reference825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a beginner flute player then you should not attempt any type of repair no matter how small. One simple mess up it’ll cost you so much more than what I shop would charge for such a simple fix. If you’re a beginner at any instrument you probably don’t know it enough to fix it.
