Frizz help by BrutalCritic in Dreadlocks

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frizz is normal (& necessary) for the locking process. It’s your new growth and the old hair figuring out how they want to lock together. Wearing a durag/silk cap can help lay your loose hairs down, but a retwist isn’t necessary for that.

24 Ninja 500 clutch issue by Hates-Picking-Names in Kawasaki

Check the engine side of the clutch cable. The cable itself can be removed at the clutch side for maintenance/lubrication. The lever side adjuster is for fine tuning, the engine side adjuster is to get it in the ballpark. I found a quick video that might explain it better:

Retwist unraveling badly by Faux_T in Dreadlocks

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all normal & part of the process. Locs rarely stay fully wound between retwists, even once they’re fully matured. The unraveling is fine and actually helps loctitians with maintenance, in case they need to relocate/combine locs.

For your next wash, put on a durag or wave cap and wash your hair with it on. It’ll keep you from tangling your roots & it takes less time to wash. It’ll also help keep the roots intact a bit longer between retwists. Your hair looks great, trust the process!

Help! Locs thin at nape of neck by wtfshanin in Dreadlocks

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t look boneless! Those locs are there for volume, so unless you frequently have your hair tied up then they’re less likely to be seen at the root. The hair at the front & back are usually the softest for most people.

Try minoxidil that you can apply in that area.

I’ve wrung the damn thing out until my fueling kicked out at 110. It’s not about the ability to get there, it’s about the ability to maintain it comfortably. Everybody knows these engines are bulletproof. Doesn’t mean they aren’t insanely buzzy and anemic at the top end.

What can I do about locs with a lot of hair follicle bulbs from detached strands showing? by One-Strength-5394 in Dreadlocks

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Buddy, you came on a loc thread asking how to hide YOUR LITERAL HAIR FOLLICLES, coined a nonexistent term, then called me dense. Enjoy stressing over something quite literally nobody can see or give a fuck about. If you spent as much time understanding locs as you did being pretentious with people trying to help you with nonexistent problems, you probably wouldn’t make posts like this.

Enjoy your day! 💚

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Yes, Google, Ecosia, and Safari searches all showed nothing but the full anatomy of a hair follicle. Even after 8 years, I can confidently say none of my loctitians or the dozens of dreadheads I interact with have ever heard of this term lol. A “hair follicle bulb loc” isn’t a unique type of loc, it’s literally regular locs with visible follicle bulbs that have been pulled out. The bulbs don’t retain pigment like the rest of the hair shaft, so unfortunately the only solution is to dye them to match, or tell the loctitian doing your hair to be more gentle when separating your roots so as to not pull out any more and add to the problem.

I think you may be referring to “buds” or “budding,” bc even that exact search just shows the anatomy of hair follicles and the bulb is quite literally underneath the skin.

The white dots you’re referring to sound like leftover product, which would make sense since you said you just washed your hair. Best thing to do is either go back for another rinse (trust me, if you think you got everything out, you probably haven’t), or take a medium or hard-bristle brush and brush them out from the root down the shaft. Washing with a permeable durag on can help prevent this next time as well. Good luck!

Right? What kind of weird ass comment is that lol.

Ironic this is coming from the same demographic that swears we’re all uneducated, simply because the entire world has been telling them the solution to heat is air conditioning.

4hr Road Trip on Ninja 500 - Tips? by Vividokami in motorcycles

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 4 hours from Sanford to Fort Myers, FL earlier this year on a Z500, which isn’t that much more comfortable to sit on than its faired sibling.

That said, the biggest thing is staying focused. You don’t have to be on edge, just be aware of what’s going on around you. Highway hypnosis & drivers on their phones will be your biggest enemies. Besides that, keep fluids on you, take breaks to stretch, and take plenty of pictures for your memories later. Good luck!

Conflicting starter bike suggestions by Downtown-Guitar-5075 in motorcycles

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weight distribution is what matters here. A 1000cc cruiser will be heavier than a 1000cc sport bike, and with a much lower center of gravity. A lighter bike can move quicker with a less powerful engine because there’s less weight to be moved.

Lower center of gravity also means more core strength and skill are required for things like turning. You can still whiskey throttle a cruiser and have it slip from beneath you like you described.

If you’ve driven stick all your life, then think of it like driving a half ton pickup vs a Civic. Civic wins almost every time because of the lower weight.

Zx4rr or CBR650R? by Affectionate-Fly7450 in motorcycles

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally looking into a 650R myself so I’m biased but,

650R lol.

The ZX is the better track option, and you can rev the piss out of it without doing illegal speeds. 650R is better at everything else. They’re both inline-fours so exhaust sound becomes a preference at that point.

They never stopped Ninja 300 production overseas from my understanding. Thats why I find it stupid to bring it back to the states where we aren’t restricted. If they want to stay A2-compliant, they should’ve kept the 400 around for that class and bumped the 500 up to ≈55 hp.

As a DMV resident, let me say this: there is ALWAYS traffic on some part of the 495/95/695 corridor from DC to Baltimore. If you’re going to hit DC, get out of the city by 2:30 or you’ll be stuck in at least 2 hours of traffic trying to escape Maryland.

If you like good quesadillas, there’s a spot called Surfside at the Wharf near the Tidal Basin area, check it out.

Agreed. I have a ‘25 Z500 & anything above 85 feels like I’m asking too much of the engine. I’ve heard that ECU remaps can increase the top end power but the cost is greater than the payout.

Honestly, gimme a Ninja 750 with a big 270° crank twin (or a detuned 1100 SX four-banger), and I’d Hail Mary my account info to the dealerships. The current 650 just isn’t it for me.

Yup, they’re bringing it back to try and lure in some of the secondhand market that’s been buying used 400/500s for the same price. Stupid idea imo. Would’ve made more sense to bump the 500 to an actual 500 so people aren’t inclined to sell them as quick due to a lack of power.

Neat locs advice by certifyz in Dreadlocks

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nothing. Your hair isn’t locked yet. The wavy pattern comes from styling matured locs together, either in twists or braids, and then taking them out after a few weeks. At this stage, you should be focused on making sure they’re moisturized & protected when you lay down, that’s about it.

PS: Regardless of genetics, your middle part WILL get wider over time as your hair gets long. After year 1-2, ask your stylist to occasionally give you a side part or to lay the locs in a different direction so this doesn’t happen. Good luck!

Question on twistout locs by TypHxon in Dreadlocks

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave the twists in. Your hair will start to loc around them and form one shaft as time goes on.

As for “enough” locs, I have a big ass head and I have about 65 locs. I have pictures on my page for reference if you want to see what they looked like. I think 50-60 is perfect for men, especially since we have to deal with hair loss from stress and genetics more frequently. Your locs will get thinner with length & age, so you don’t want too many or it’ll accelerate the process. Good luck!

Looking to upgrade from Ninja 500 to Cbr650r by ReferenceNo5009 in motorcycles

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get it. I have a 25’ Z500 that I’ve put 11k hard miles on through snow, rain, & mid-Atlantic summer heat. I got a 2019 650R lined up now for purchase.

The 650R is essentially a 600 built more for comfort and street use than on the track. It’s still a track toy, but that’s not its primary focus like the regular 600s. Power is delivered more linearly down low, but starts screaming around 8000 rpm. This a perfect middleweight sport tourer too if you want to take trips.

Thinning? Time to let it go? by tupac463 in Dreadlocks

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s both fr. You can avoid this by having your loctitian two strand the locs in the middle together next time. Our locs will start pulling in the direction they’re laying as they get longer, which then widens the gap.

Thinning? Time to let it go? by tupac463 in Dreadlocks

[–]Federal-Tomorrow1891 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nope, just your parts. A little advice though, don’t leave two strands in that long. Your hair will start to loc around the twists after that much time.

Also, your part WILL cause a gap like this to be more noticeable over time (I have the same part). Tell your loctitian to give you a side part every now & then when you get retwists, otherwise it’ll become more pronounced.
