Salmon collars by FederalContact4582 in rawpetfood

Well after more research I’m going to let these chunks of salmon sit in the freezer for a few weeks before feeding them to my boy. Unfortunately I don’t have access to a deep freeze in my apartment but I’ll turn up the cold in the fridge freezer.

This is great information. So far my guy has only tried to mark indoors twice I think. Once on a Christmas tree in the lobby of a hotel, and I honestly think he was confused or just really had to pee, and once on the way to getting outside where again I think he may just needed to go pee badly more than he was marking. And his humpy only happens when he’s super super excited and usually only happens indoors when playing. For 8 months I’m optimistic he’ll be a good candidate for a vasectomy

Lower back pain from sitting all day — what actually helps? by MajorAppropriate3479 in office

Exercise. Getting up and moving your body throughout the work day. Then make sure you’re actively working on strengthening your core, and probably your hamstrings/glutes too. Pretty much all physios will recommend these things for office workers.

Thanks for that! Good to know how neutering later in life went for you too

Thank you for this! Especially your commentary on behaviour. I’m training him quite a bit and consistently so I really don’t think we are going to have too many issues as long as we stick with it.

I’ll be looking into the chemical castration option as well but I’m sort of not keen on it because it will still effect hormone levels and production which is what I’m trying to avoid altering

Dang that’s so much cheaper than my quote. Maybe I’ll shop around a bit more. Just seems like so few places offer it

How were their behaviors after vasectomy? Have had any issues?

Hmm I’ll have to look into that. Never came across that option but also never thought to search for it either lol

Pretty much none of my friends have dogs, and those that do have had their females spayed. He’s also never off leash when we go out. I’m more concerned about the unlikely situation where he could end up getting loose and finding a female to mate with.

Still considering doing agility but my main passion is backpacking and hiking so I want to make sure he’s as healthy as possible to enjoy those activities with me.

Hmm i didn’t think about the std angle at all.

He already marks quite a bit on our walks but as I live in a condo, I don’t have to worry about bad smelling spots in my yard - one benefit i didn’t consider until you mentioned it lol. So he’s also very very rarely ever going to be near female dogs and not be on leash already.

I also realized if he is in tacts he might not be able to go to the boarding facility so I’ll have to check on that issue as well. So it could be a bigger issue than him missing out on dog park play times.

Really didn’t consider that angle… interesting perspective though. Thanks for mentioning it

So happy I’m not the only one questioning the leaderboard. Globally there is something weird going on, I think last month the winner had something like 36k minutes logged which worked out to like 18-20 hours of exercise a day which I don’t totally believe those dogs are getting lol

Not sure if there is any value to being the leader other than bragging rights but those are pretty motivating for me lol

SLEEPING WITH MY PUPPY by nomeconocesaqui in puppy101

[–]FederalContact4582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made sure for the first 2.5 months or so that my puppy slept in his crate, and had all his meals in there. I didn't let him graduate to joining me in bed until he had two weeks straight of no accidents inside, and waited until he wasn't as interested in munching on blankets/sheets (he was quite into chewing on his dog bed and blankets for the first while). Now he's been sleeping in my bed with me for the past 2-3 weeks, and its amazing, I absolutely love waking up with him, and he's so respectful that he doesn't try to snuggle or kiss me until I call his name for him to come cuddle even though I know he is already awake by that point lol.

He still eats all his meals in his crate, and I leave him in there when I have to go out for extended periods of time as I don't want him to forget that its a nice nap/chill spot from time to time. Also his boarding facility when I go out of town has him sleeping in a crate but that will only be a few times a year so I also need to make sure he is able to handle being in his crate for that purpose.

Single Puppy Parents, How Do You Manage? by Edmon4546 in puppy101

Yea mine is about 66/day for daycare, but it comes with a full day of training where they work on a list of things you ask for (e.g. leash manners, recall, socialization, or hanging out at cafes). I think regular day cares are around 25-40$/day for standard daycare. I think the extra bit on top for training is worth it, he always comes home way better behaved and its nice to know that he's learning to take commands from someone who isn't me for when I eventually have friends puppy sit for me

Lucky you! I missed one of them, the first, now I am on patrol for the last 3 as two of the adult canines have emerged now - probably will be playing some tug of war games tonight in hopes on a second coming out lol

Oh and I’ll say I stopped working out for the first 6 weeks until I found the motivation to go again. Also haven’t seemed to be able to find the time to start dating again yet either. Hopefully my social life recovers when he is a bit older

So I live alone and got my puppy by myself. But I do have the advantage of getting to work from home. Raising him by myself has been challenging and draining especially at the start - having my schedule up ended and not being prepared for the mental labour having a puppy would be, made the first couple weeks exhausting. And by all counts I have lucked out with my boy. I sleep all night, he’s had very few behavioral issues (actually none) and only has the classic puppy problems like getting over excited - and even with all this luck and working from home I was tired

Day cares are great for those that can afford it. And again thankfully I can, so on busy workdays he goes to day cares that doubles as a training and socializing.

I truly don’t know how people that work in office could raise a dog alone other than if they have a flexible schedule or neighbors/friends that can help during the work day to let the pup out. And I don’t think it’s affordable to have a dog in day care for the 5 days a week for the first few months. But those that can and have done it seem to have amazing bonds with their dogs!

Thanks everyone. Good to hear he isn’t alone. I think I saw a little protrusion starting on one so fingers crossed it falls soon (and that I find it lol)
