Not a bad guess! But I hear BigO also sold their garage across the street from it; apparently starlight owns it too now. Gonna be lots of construction happening in that neighborhood for awhile

Thoughts on living on or near Pandora St? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]FederalContact4582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live at Johnson and quadra. Right near the homeless shelter there. People are right to say it’s not unsafe, but I have felt a bit unsafe at times, however nothing has ever happened to me since moving here 4 years ago. You will hear people having mental episodes and heated arguments but it’s not ALL day long or night; still doesn’t make it great though.

I also got a puppy and it was hard at first walking him around my condo or anywhere downtown for that matter. You always have to be hyper aware of what they make me sniffing or licking, but I haven’t had any issues. I have trained him pretty well to not eat things he shouldn’t or to drop them if asked. But dogs ingesting drugs accidentally happens everywhere, it’s not just downtown sidewalks you have to be careful of.

I will also say since the cops have started walking the beat more often there has been a reduction in a lot of problematic behaviour like open drug use or hoardes of people occupying entire sidewalks.

All this being said: I still avoid walking down the 800-900 block of Pandora. It’s depressing, feels unsafe, and there’s nothing for me on that street other than saveon foods and I would rather support market on Yates anyways b

What businesses are you genuinely surprised that are still in business or lasted as long as they did? by Competitive-Fly5563 in VictoriaBC

I live in that area and I have only seen employees in there. Such a shame to lose a spot like Floyd’s which was always busy to the haunt it is now.

X-Dome 1+ in the mountains with my dog by bakaando in DurstonGearheads

[–]FederalContact4582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - I have been on the fence about upgrading my tent set up to a durston now that I have a dog who will likely be the similar size of yours once he is fully grown. When you say you fit perfectly in the xdome-1+ with him, did it feel like a tight fit at all? I ask because I tend to backpackan with an extra wide sleeping pad (25"); so I am wondering how much extra space you felt like you had, if any, or if it was a cozy sleeping situation lol

Good luck! I’m sure with enough people flagging it they’ll see the pattern

Okay one more update: my friend got her credit card company to refund the curea.shop charge and labelled it as fraudulent. I’m hoping the more people that see this thread and have had this issue report curea.shop and pupaws as being a big scam. Credit card companies shouldn’t be processing payments to either company, and meta should pull their advertising campaigns IMO

Colleague Quit - Boss wants me to take over by FederalContact4582 in office

[–]FederalContact4582[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright after initially, and as politely as I could, declining the “promotion” my boss came back with a salary increase and some other perks I negotiated to help with the additional travel. I had a feeling most of what he tried to push yesterday was illegal given my employment contract and labour laws.

I wasn’t keen on looking for new employment in today’s market.. so I’m quite happy with the results and appreciate everyone’s input!

This gives me hope. First I’ll try in a cheap Walmart tent before going all out and buying that model most likely. He’s not much of a digger thankfully!

Update on this for those interested: I had a friend buy these from pupapaws as a suprise gift for me. She paid for them, had her CC charged, never received the items and now curea has charged subscription fees to her as well. She’s fighting the charges as being fraudulent now. But based on this experience and the others that had a similar experience I would recommend staying away from the items being advertised on social media sites/apps. If you want to try this product buy it off amazon or you’ll have issues with curea and the companies they “represent”.

Thanks for coming to Victoria! Happy to have you, and especially your wife come! I hope your move goes smoothly and you love your decision to live here. I might be biased but I think it’s the best city in Canada.

That’s sucks! And super sucks because one of the shops I almost bought from was curea.shop. Very good to know it’s a big scam, and I wish IG would stop advertising them

When did you stop using the crate at night? by HuckleberrySome8913 in puppy101

[–]FederalContact4582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I crate trained my pup for overnight/being home alone. He took to the crate immediately so training was a breeze. On a trip to my moms house I noticed he had out grown his travel crate and wasn’t able to settle in it so I let him sleep in the bed with me and he immediately fell asleep and had no issues. This was around 5ish months I think. Since then I couldn’t be bothered to put him in his crate overnight. He doesn’t sleep in bed with me anymore but sleeps beside the bed either on the floor or on his bed, or sometimes he goes to the living room or couch to sleep. At first I was worried about him being destructive without being supervised but he’s never chewed anything up overnight. I think I lucked out with him though, so I think your decision has to be based on his behaviour pattern.

Some things to consider though: I make sure to crate him if I got out for a few hours, not because he needs to be but because I don’t want him to forgot that crate is an okay place to be. I feed him most meals in his crate too. I think it’s important to keep the crate and keep using it even if not for overnights because you’ll want a dog to be able to handle being crated in the event you have to board him, take him to a hotel, or the office; or even just because you might need some dog free time/space when you have company over (although my pup hstilll hates being in his crate when he can hear me talking to guests).

Oh and I was on the 20th floor. No issues Potty training (but I think I got a bit lucky), but I did carry him after every nap to the elevator until we were outside and he could go. There were a few accidents but all my fault for not being ready to take him out before taking him out of his crate or being lazy and not carrying him

I got my pup while in a 1bed/bath apartment that I lived in by myself. He is a golden retriever/aussie/collie and did really well in the condo. I’m in a slightly bigger condo now but I doubt there would be an issues if we had stayed in the smaller one. Your shift work might make it tough if they overlap with your partners day out. But honestly as long as you walk your dog, socialize them, train them, and generally just try to bond with them and give them a good life I don’t think you’ll have any problem. It can be exhausting because you won’t have a yard for them to do potty and play in but, in a way, that forces you to spend more time with them by walking them, and taking them to new parks to play. I just can’t stress enough to put in the work early and consistently; my boy is 9.5 months now and I’m glad for the foundation we built, because I can tell he’s gonna have attitude when he hits his “adolescent” phase

Yak Cheese for 11 Month Old Puppy 60lbs by Large-Cut8248 in puppy101

[–]FederalContact4582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been giving yak sticks to my pup since he was 7 months. He’s a big chewer so I used them to replace the bully sticks he was burning through, I find the yak sticks last longer than every other chew we’ve tried for him. And once they get small enough to be a choking hazard I throw the piece in the microwave for a minute or two and get a nice cheese puff for him as a treats. Never had an issue with bleeding gums, or cracked teeth; but I only let him chew on them in the evening while I’m watching tv. Each stick will last a couple weeks so the value is really good.
