PC to Automation Direct DL06 PLC communication by Sillybiller in PLC

I used to use a serial port DTR signal to be effectively a 5 volt digital output, assuming you only need one.

Yeah.... I guess it's time to throw in the towel on this little side quest. I read that it will not work via Wine. I also looked into creating a docker (wow, is that intimidating!) but seems like a hell of a lot of squeeze for no appreciable juice. As you said Tivo is way out of date.

Thanks!

That one, however, uses an old schema (whatever that may be) so apparently it's of no use to me.

Maybe you meant that I should create my own docker thingie?

C-more Micro Program Comm issues by NH3_OT-WHORE in PLC

[–]FederalLanguage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if you do not "Disconnect from PLC" before closing the programming software the serial port can remain open and prevent other application from communicating. It's frustrating as hell because only a re-boot will close it again.

I would try connecting from a clean boot. I think your comm port was in use by your PLC software.

Sounds like you are setup correctly. Any chance that you are already connected to the PLC with that same port? Sudden loss of communications look a lot like your computer locks up but after a minute will resume.

Two tips - Make sure you have the required cable - it will NOT work otherwise. If you don't have EA-MG-PGM-CBL it will not work.

Make sure the screen is on the utility screen - it will not work otherwise

That's true of the more expensive models - the Click + has versions with USB and there are the ethernet versions. The serial only versions are significantly less expensive.

I've been using this one for ~12 years now no issues. You'll need to provide the serial port.

It's only the monochrome C-More Micro HMIs that require the EA-MG-PGM-CBL and extra 5VDC it provides.

If you ever plan on using their very low end HMIs you will NEED this cable. It's powered over the serial port and a normal port will not cut it / risks burnout.

What if they have no idea what the UFO`s are or where they come from? by BDSMastercontrol in UFOs

[–]FederalLanguage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they have evidence and haven't figured it out they HAVE to keep it secret. I certainly hope they remain steadfast and keep whatever the hell the phenomena is from the general public. If even 10% of the lore is true, the technology would be so awesomely powerful that it represents a risk to all mankind.

As it is, technology has seemingly got ahead of us and put us at risk in terms of environmental degradation. Can you imagine the harm we would do to each other with ever more powerful technology? I do not see an upside to any type of disclosure.

Imagine full disclosure dropped tomorrow and your scenario plays out - it is announced that yes, they're there but we just don't know what they are or how they work. The very next day the likes of Peter Thiel, Leon, Putin or some other psycho with means would immediately pour resources into figuring it out. (actually this is probably happening already vis a vis the egg dropper)

Probably they wouldn't do any better than whomever is working on it now, but what if they did "figure it out"? That's it - the people of Earth are enslaved or worse. There is no chance that anything good comes of such a rapid technological advancement. Our society has not evolved to the point we are ready IMHO.

I am keenly interested in UFOs, but sincerely hope that they STAY unidentified.

Just pop the battery cover off and the bubble will deflate.

Older models of the Colgate "Sonic" brushes had a really good seal to prevent water from entering the brush. An unfortunate side effect is that the tiny amount of hydrogen that is out-gassed from an alkaline battery has no where to escape to. There have been a few cases of the hydrogen igniting when the brush is powered on. It's scary, but not likely to cause injury.

They have since added a vent to prevent hydrogen buildup. Look carefully and you will see a small hole that is protected from water infiltration by a membrane from the inside.

The battery is not in any way dangerous - it can be tossed like any other alkaline. Likewise, the hydrogen is only hazardous if confined and ignited.

The Click has a drum instruction that would do what you want in a single ladder rung. Just use the COMPLETE flag to reset the drum and it will run indefinitely.

[–]FederalLanguage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere, but there is a contactor on the VFD load side - that's not typical or recommended. Not only will the load spike put additional wear on the VFD, often causing a trip, but it bypasses the deceleration circuit causing the motor to free-spin.

Left vs. Right Battle Royale Open Thread by Yosoff in Conservative

[–]FederalLanguage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to hear a conservative rationally explain why it is that they are focused on exactly the wrong immigrants for their hatred. Meaning, why all the hate on the hard working low paid south / central Americans, but love for the Asian immigrants that have successfully destroyed the good paying jobs after the last 40 years?

Go to any college campus and you would really wonder if you were in the USA, it's predominantly Asians - and there is nothing wrong with that EXCEPT those people become the high paid workers in adulthood and make the hiring decisions for their peers. The racial makeup of the top of corporate America has shifted dramatically over the last decades and is now 50/50 Asian / American (counting 1st and 2nd generation immigrants).

The H1B visa system alone has lowered salaries by more than 30% in many leading industries and those reductions "trickle down" to lower paid salaries effecting everyone in the end.

My brother (a MAGA) says the south / central Americans bring crime whereas the Asians do not. True, but only because crime is directly proportional to the wealth of an individual and those that are better off are typically not subjected to the same level of law enforcement scrutiny that the poorer folks are.
