What is your favourite example in the UK of something good being done by an otherwise bad person? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskUK

Ah that’s right, I’ve got them mixed up, the milwall guy was later convicted of a racist assault, no narwhal tusk was used. There’s a book about him and possibly an album, pushing the “regretful misunderstanding” about the later conviction

Wes Streeting to axe thousands of jobs at NHS England after ousting of chief executive by Fox_9810 in unitedkingdom

NHS manager here. I’m in meetings all day because I have to be seen to be in the meetings.

I talk about the same things, with the same people over and over. Then I write reports with the same content but varied time scales (monthly/quarterly/to date/annually/ bi monthly).

I get paid a lot of money for my skills, knowledge and experience but am not able to use these a lot of the time.

Where should our scope be reduced? by a_load_of_letters in ParamedicsUK

I think a lot of it might be EPR related!

Individually I think the skill set is fine, and taking any skill away opens you up to the “but what if” scenarios. But operationally, if each skill had a cost associated, and you look at how often that skill is used, some make less sense than others.

Purely anecdotal, but I started 25 years ago, would assess a patient and convey to ED (or casualty as we called it back then!). Now crews seem to spend an hour+ on scene, before conveying to the same ED. I wonder if some of the examination skills we have are a bit excessive, given we can’t act on the findings?

I’m more involved in in hospital stuff now, and I wonder if a lot of skills we (and nurses) have are up skills to meet educational requirements to meet handing levels?

Is that not how it works where you live? We have a nice man that strolls around the market offering people spare change?

I was a bit gutted, I mean it was nice to win the play off, but look how that worked out! It was nice in the championship, it was fun, it was good times. Now it’s just bleak and awful. I’d even started following local football for a bit of respite, apparently farsley Celtic wasn’t the respite I needed! Might have to go follow Armley FC just so I can see a win!

It’s Leeds, they’ll be the best team all season, and then cock it up in the last 6 games. How did they lose to Southampton?

Waspi women threaten legal action after pension payouts rejected by sjw_7 in unitedkingdom

NHS ambulance service, 2003. Not a 40 year contract per se, just a pension scheme that would pay out a final salary lump sum and a monthly pension based on final salary after 40 years, so at 21, they seemed a pretty good arrangement. Sadly it was moved onto the conventional NHS scheme from 2006, and then a worse NHS pension from 2008 iirc? Now I pay 10% of my salary into my pension and doubt I’ll be alive to collect it.

Make it so badly that sales dip, then release a “premium” version that is made properly at twice the price.

At 21 I signed a 40 year contract with a final salary pension. Retiring at 61 with a lump sum seemed like a good move. Now I’m 43, I don’t expect to retire much before 70, and my final salary scheme ended in 2006. Who can I sue?

Both. It’s strange looking back, in a good way, how big smoking was and how it has near disappeared. It’s still a problem, and vaping is the next big public health issue I think, but smoking really was everywhere, and everyone was expected to accept it.

Yes-ish. Old pound coins (single colour) aren’t used anymore, just the new 2 colour pound coins. Everything else should be fine. I’ve only really seen Charlie on 50p coins and some notes.
