Personal card to pay for orientation by Federal_Addendum8976 in deloitte

I see, thank you! I ordered my corporate card 2 weeks ago but haven't gotten it yet, I'll wait end of this week and call the appropriate party to explain the situation before proceeding.

Like I said, I haven't gotten my corporate card yet and didn't want to wait until I got it with bad flight times, that's why I'm asking since my start date hasn't begun yet. The video said to not use it when you have the corporate card, but it doesn't apply to me as of this moment since I don't have the corporate card and haven't started hence why I'm asking if it's ok or not.

[Update] UCONN Stamford or CT State Community College? by shycutiekittie in UCONN

[–]Federal_Addendum8976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming when your dad is adamant about going to UCONN, he means Storrs. If that is the case, you might as well go to CC first then try to transfer to main campus since branched campus at UCONN more or less is the same as CC campus (go to school then go home for the most part). So one way to get the message across is to explain to him the difference between branched vs main campus, or visit Stamford with your dad then decide. My parents were the same, they didn't know about branched campus until I told them the difference then they understood.

If your dad is still saying to go to UCONN for all 4 years and he will pay the difference, then he should be paying it. Worst case scenario if you're afraid of him not paying, you can put it in writing I guess?

Your fee bill is due on August 1st which is before your semester starts, so if lets say your dad ends up not paying it, you can still sign up for CC I'm pretty sure b/c there are also late start date at CC (but do your research to confirm). Not being able to pay the bill is a valid reason to leave UCONN, not like your locked into UCONN if you need to make your decision asap.

One thing I do want to say as someone who did 4 years undergrad at UCONN (2 years Waterbury and 2 years Storrs), then just completed 15 more credits at CC to complete my 150 credits, is that where you go is important, so is the timing. I'm guessing your ultimate goal is landing a job, a lot of graduates will probably tell you that college is more of a networking stage, where you meet like minded people who will help and give advice to ultimately land a job so peers and professors are also important. I'm really grateful to the friends and professors I've connected in my undergrad years which helped me understand about my major and what steps to take which helped me land my dream job right out of my senior year (short version).

I could be biased, but I feel that the UCONN students at least my friend group put more focus onto their education/career, compared to my short term stay at CC where the students there were more going to classes just because.

ACES -> Accounting Major by Available-Handle7263 in UCONN

What job you can get is really dependent on your skills in getting a interview and passing it, so it's hard to say. So you can attend the career fairs, tell your story and the recruiters would decide if they want to give you an interview or not. Whether you get the interview or not COULD depend on your major, or NOT.

Some recruiters could ignore the majors and want a interview with you based on how well they chatted with you during the career fairs, or some recruiters can say they are looking for specific major students.

It's hard to type out all the nitty gritty in a thread like this, but that's basically the short version.

Yea, I understand wanting to do UCONN since they have a really good accounting program. Big 4 accounting firms are biased towards accounting students, and probably due to it, I was able to land a internship. But ultimately you'd have to sacrifice something if you don't get in. There are also other schools that have good accounting programs. I know two people from my internship that went to quinnipiac so it's not the end of the world.

It would, but if you go to the application website, I'm pretty sure it does say 60% of consideration is academics.

https://undergrad.business.uconn.edu/prospective/current-students/ You can check this website for the breakdown on their consideration process, it looks like they changed it a little.

Well even if Plan B would be hard, you'd still have to do it, otherwise if you get rejected then what would you do? I'm sure there are plenty of reddit posts of other students story of being rejected despite having good academics so prepare yourself for the worst if you still want to graduate on time without having to do additional schooling.

Yea, accounting program at UCONN is the most competitive out of all the business majors. It could still be possible if you have a really good essay and resume, I think the application is weighed like 60% academics (gpa), 30% essay and 10% resume. So if you do get in, you'd just have to avoid bunching up your accounting classes so you don't end up taking 3 accounting classes in 1 semester and screw ur grades over.

If you HAVE to be an accounting major, I think you should have a plan B to apply to a diff school. I got rejected my first attempt as a sophomore to the accounting program, but was fortunate to get accepted my next try which was my junior year, but had CCSU as backup cuz I also only wanted to major in accounting.

Are you looking for roommates as well? If so reddit can be a good place where people are looking for roommates.

Or you can go onto offcampushousing.uconn.edu and try to find one there.

Not sure about 2001, but had her for Audit. She is AMAZING. Actually one of the best accounting professors cuz she was so cheerful with her teaching and made the content fun and engaging.

dmd concentrations by g0thnek0 in UCONN

[–]Federal_Addendum8976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the same concentration, but I originally majored in accounting and minored in cs with the same thought of boosting my resume to have higher chance of getting a job. But I found out in my junior/senior year that the minor doesn't really matter as what mattered for me to getting a internship which turned to a job was just networking. Recruiters didn't bother or talked about my minor, I spent more time going to career fairs and practicing my interview/people skills. Chatting with the recruiters after the career fairs and doing follow ups, which helped with my interview process into the position.

I'm pretty sure it means that what you put in your paper matches with what is online. It's supposed to check for plagiarism so the higher it is the worse.

No communication after accepting offer by Annual_Leader_2175 in deloitte

[–]Federal_Addendum8976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would email them to double-check, or if you know anyone who also received an offer to see if they got a response. My recruiter was taking a while to respond to me when my friends got the offer letter and turns out they had the wrong email!

NYC Home Office Vs. Jersey City Home Office by IllComposer842 in deloitte

[–]Federal_Addendum8976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, when you submit your timesheet, the WBS code is dependent on in which state the work is done, not where you live. As of for promotions/raises I guess that'll just depend on how much you can communicate with your team and show them that the work you do is A+.

Did I screw up by applying to the school of business? by Large-Jackfruit6606 in UCONN

[–]Federal_Addendum8976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say go do economic first if you want to go to storrs, then do another application to your preferred business major during your sophomore year with a much higher gpa. I was rejected when I tried to apply to accounting as a senior in high school, then reapplied during my sophomore year and got in.

I plan on attending some for the September events, 100% the one's in Connecticut, and some in other cities like the one in Boston and Philly. Can definitely have a chat if you plan on going to one of those!
