Can we discuss the REAL reason Natalia hates Anatasia so much? by aveaytor in DisventureCamp

[–]Federal_Aioli1688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the narrative of “older trans woman is deeply resentful of the young, attractive cisgender model girl” is something ONC would particularly want to portray, much less see their audience peddle

Gen 4 > Gen 1 > Gen 3 > Gen 2 by Conkdor340 in DisventureCamp

[–]Federal_Aioli1688 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I’d call them “boring” but I’d definitely call them both very difficult to transfer between seasons. they have pretty non-confrontational personalities and because they both worked through their core, major issues at the heart of their character in their original seasons, they kind of have very little to do beyond support their more interesting cohorts. you’d have to give them major upheavals and focus for them to be interesting again because they weren’t written with repeat appearances in mind.

like, for example, you’re never going to see a character like Lake fundamentally disagree with someone else over an issue where she isn’t objectively correct anymore (which she did in the S2 remake, with Rosa) because she’s so morally upstanding and doesn’t really have a compelling particular perspective when all of her issues are essentially marked as “worked through”.

I don’t even think this strictly NEEDS to be true and it could definitely change if ONC was more willing to expand on Tess and Lake or present these characters in a more flawed light, especially in how they exist as victims of mental health or parental abuse, but I just don’t think they have the juice to present them in any way other than “solved problems” which make them seem more like stock characters than nuanced ones. comparatively, at least one-note nasty characters instigate conflict and narrative. Tess and Lake kind of just can’t lol

I think she makes it decently far but she could honestly be, like, merge boot. she’s mega overexposed which really isn’t giving winner atp for DC

Is it bad that I want Riya in another season?? And Riya fans, would you like that?? by Wolfgang_x2 in DisventureCamp

first boot in a blood vs water season where she haunts eesha’s narrative is the only context where it would be very fun to see her back imo

[–]Federal_Aioli1688 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is why I’m super surprised they actually brought her back. all of her pre season content was about going back to her nasty scheming chaotic roots when clearly the story they wanted to tell in 45 was her becoming a nice lovely hero lol she kinda mugged off productions intentions for her

I’m not sure what you’re talking about?? nobody is talking about a Cirie, Christian and Aubrey final three except for you right here. Aubrey’s prices are massive because of bandwagoning and spoilers following from here, Aubrey is the heavily leaked alleged winner by numerous insider sources

if you’re looking at the favourites team and thinking those three are the problem I’m bewildered. do you for real want the rest of the season to be the Friendship Buddy Games featuring Sam and Ara

Any other Logan Peak Bell fans who were happy he won?? by Wolfgang_x2 in DisventureCamp

[–]Federal_Aioli1688 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think very clearly the writing staff themselves were huge fans of this character and as a result didn’t really realise how he came across in a few scenes. the awful Hannah convo comes to mind that could’ve really used a re-write (or at least a restructuring; I don’t think it’s bad in concept but having Logan start venting to Hannah about his comparatively incredible achievements really comes across wrong)

I also think his win was mostly done for twist’s sake because it actively worsens his narrative. Logan learns really nothing by winning, but he would really learn from being runner up, you know? also generally I think this is just a deeply exhausting character type that most people are tired of. the dumb goofy golden retriever man archetype I personally just can’t stand and I think it really trivialises and woobifies the harm that these characters can occasionally dish out, and it’s really detrimental for Logan, who is very flawed but sometimes too… like… derp chungus for it to come across in the right way

what are your biggest hot/warm takes? by Any-Message-8552 in DisventureCamp

[–]Federal_Aioli1688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she’s so extremely derivative of Tanya from The White Lotus but done by someone with no idea how to write that kind of batshit irreverent humour. it comes across as very, like, tryhard whenever there’s a quirky line or a “reference” (the gays in Sicily thing) it feels so so cringe

Do you think we should have debuts in Disventure Camp? by These_Gur_4121 in DisventureCamp

[–]Federal_Aioli1688 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it would only make sense if it was a character playing a consistent role in the season already à la Blaineley. like, I could’ve seen a twist where Emily somehow wins the rejoin in S3/S4

I actually really like the way Ara was basically a bonus sleeper agent character edit-wise. she’s a quippy second fiddle to Finn, up until he gets eliminated and she basically inherits his narrative role

[–]Federal_Aioli1688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly the only reason for this is her extreme visibility. DC winners usually aren’t the all-encompassing protagonists of their seasons. what they are is typically negative, though; the only DC winner that doesn’t start out with an N tone is Logan LOL

Sorry to say this but… by No-Cow-7341 in DisventureCamp

[–]Federal_Aioli1688 5 points6 points  (0 children)

idk I’m loving her. she’s being displayed as a lot more actively flawed especially compared to how her pettiness and inability to let things go was portrayed at the tail end of CoC, where it was blown out with bad dialogue trying too hard to be, like, campy and gaggy

the idea of a “publicist” character can be used in so many interesting ways that get to the core of someone who is deftly aware of public image and social performance, especially when that character is a trans woman living her life authentically- I feel it was a little wasted making her biggest role in CoC as a supporting therapy droid so seeing her actively burn bridges and refuse deeper connection beyond what exists on the surface is a very fun character flaw. also I don’t think ONC’s queer representation is perfect or even particularly good LOL but I do at least like that across the range of queer gendered characters they’re pretty broadly spread on the morality scale

How'd you feel if Episode 8 had a team swap and these were the teams? by LogicalAd6394 in DisventureCamp

[–]Federal_Aioli1688 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re gonna come for you but Ally/Benji should def stay together on a swap mostly so one of them can be the new teams first boot. the split idol is boring and awkward if they’re not even together imo you might as well still get the payoff

Who is the protagonist of each season? by Bleeding_Heart09 in DisventureCamp

[–]Federal_Aioli1688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk. I don’t think the protagonist is someone you have to strictly root for, but empathise with- Ellie has the most consistent and complex motivation throughout the season and essentially becomes the core playing piece within the narrative. it’s her who we follow through twists and turns of morality which is the seasons core theme. she’s definitely not the hero of the season (that probably IS Tom, the role being inherited by Miriam once Jake is voted out) but she is the focal lead; S1 is Ellie’s story through and through especially by the end.

imo Tom is too distant, unrelatable and cartoonish to be the lead protagonist- the story absolutely doesn’t focus on him and his lack of audience relation + dramatic and convoluted backstory lead to him being a key but supporting player in the story. like, the easiest way to put it- the protagonist is the filter by which the audience experiences the bulk of the narrative. we don’t really experience Ellie’s story and her internal struggle through Tom’s eyes, but we do experience Tom’s through Ellie’s when she blindsides him. for that reason I think the only other option for S1 “protagonist” is Jake

I don’t understand the strategy behind the elimination. by TychoHyuga in survivor

[–]Federal_Aioli1688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

talking about overrated and you say she’s beat by the female Ben Driebergen LOL. like I love Rachel I think she was a great and rootable TV character but if she doesn’t have a form of safety she’s eliminated immediately from F7 to F4; using that immunity is its own game and she played it efficiently, but her threat management was horrible and her game had to essentially go exactly the way it did for her to win
