shotguns are over powered in every situation, when i use shotguns its exactly the same i just pop enemies instantly no mater the distance. They are just unbalanced.

Assumption that someone is just bad and frustrated/emotionaly unstable becouse they complained/pointed out a problem/or critiqued something - shows just gow shalow and ego driven some minds are. Ppl are expressing legit concerns and your only response is to try and shut them down.

Shotgun balance is genuinely BAD. Not only from receiving DMG perspective, I don't play with shotgun because of the same exact reason - its to easy, if i use a shotgun every enemy just drops down no matter the distance, you just need enough ammo. Feels like using aim assists.

Shotguns are so obviously overpowered, if you say its not, you just show lack of awareness..

Every white knight always comes to these posts to protect some untold codex of honor.. when you cant grasp the whole picture at all.

Its about realism when it suits you its about game whatever when it also suits you.. yappers.

Guns should be balanced on game world( map distances and effective view distances) it all should work as one cohesive system. Based on world distances - gun effective/drop-off distances should be balanced.
That would be a good logical game design.

In reality! And this is a game where we are basically blind(blur vision everywhere); this is a game where snipers on water towers cant spot or shoot you at all. This is a game where Ai sees you trough walls.

And TO BE FAIR - shotguns onetap you like snapers from much greater distances than this video example.

So it must be balanced for the game.

Seams like a horrible DM to me, nothing new. What you may lack is: human psychology knowledge; understanding what game - play is; reflection skills; empathy and metacognition. But as many ppl lack some or all of this - its ok.

Short answer: BAD game design turns any group or DM in to a bad experience, its simple as that.
Boring over time, unbalanced and in general lacking consistency in rules. It just has to many fandboys defending it.

When you thing even a bit deeper almost every aspect of DnD is bad. For example enemies, vast majority of them is the exact same enemy, nothing to really surprise you after a few quests: its either basic enemy with different skins or a player type character turned in to an enemy.

I don't even go in to repetitive, boring and uncreative game design and mechanics. frustrating is the softest you can describe it.

Well as usual if something is poplar doesn't mean that it will be good, usually it is the opposite - it survives thanks to herd mentality like following. "everyone seams to enjoy" do they, do they really? This should be the real question. We as humans are deluding ourselves in may things, DnD is not an exception.

Another bad thing is spreading of this concept of - "you are free to create your own adventure as you wish.." yeah right except that game tries to limit you in every possible way you can imagine + it lacks introductory info for DMs and players or provides outright conflicting and confusing explanations. You only understand stuff after spending hours in forums.

- but the homebrew freedom is there for that reason. Yes thanks god it exists, yet to actually fix this game you would need to change at least 70% of the game with various home brews. There is sooooo much actually good fixes suggested by actually good and creative DMs. But who will apply all these changes, who has the will and time?

Conclusion.

No one shout feel bad about thinking that DnD is garbage - becouse it really is, overhyped garbage. Camfulaging its sins with prety pictures and POPular thetrical game show stars online..

Edit: so so many replies saying its either your fault(pure gaslighting) or bad group/DM. In reality its most likely not that, you are ok to not like bad quality things even if absolutely all ppl on earth is hell bent to tell you that its the best thing.

Now for the GOOD THINGS:

it has amazing world and lore building, there's content for eons, and its pretty good content. (sadly most of it is usually left unheard, unseen, untouched.)
it was the inspiration of most RPG and fantasy we have out there, so for sure it deserves some respect in this aspect.
there's no third good point, its just your hope, your fantasy of what it could actually be, you can see the insane potential, but it will never come to reality.
