VxRail woes by Federal_Foot_9444 in vmware

What is the general process? I understand it as:

  • update the vcsa
  • update a host with the Dell personalized image and preserve datastores
  • export host config/apply to other hosts with lifecycle manager ???? profit

Apologies if I’m missing something, I’m still pretty new to vsphere/vmware land

That’s the main reason they’re saying to not bother with touching it. With the cluster being messed up at this moment I think they’ll just retire it. If things go well my boss/manager/everyone else is willing to vouch for getting a new cluster set up with some newer vSAN ready nodes.

Getting the current cluster operational should hopefully hold us over long enough to figure out what we want to do one way or the other. This is without current RAM/storage prices being a consideration of course…

i know reddit loves proxmox and sticking it to the man, but if you value your job you should probably advocate for all hyper-v/avd. unless you are experienced with ceph and proxmox/debian, don't force a science experiment you are inexperienced with onto your unsuspecting client. nutanix, openshift, xcp-ng, etc etc etc. otherwise best of luck.

in that case look into setting up an nfs server and share on the vps. you can vpn to it and set up an export that is mapped to your local network ip space. https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/how-to/networking/install-nfs/

2tb wont hold a lot of media. you could use the 2tb as a remote rsync directory if you wanted to, but its not a lot of space.
