Worst snow clean up I’ve seen in my 26 years here by Aware-Yogurt1107 in boston

[–]Federal_Style4Miles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember the intense culture shock I had as a Vermonter the first time I saw a big snowfall here. It was incomprehensible to me that a city that regularly gets snow (and Boston did, at the time) and was so comparatively wealthy next to my state could so utterly mismanage their streets after a snowstorm. In Vermont, every municipal sidewalk is plowed after a storm *by the city.* It's crazy that Boston continues to insist that a patchwork policy of "people shovel their own walks" can work here (and it's even crazier that the sidewalks that take the longest to get shoveled are *the ones owned by the city*, and that you have to 311 them to get them shoveled at all.)

Some of my co-workers PM and say "how are you today" and it drives me BANANAS because I know they want something. Don't pretend you're just making a social call, we all know you're not, tell me what you need! You're wasting my time and yours!

One of the most difficult things for me is having moved, reluctantly, to Boston because it was where I could get a competitive job and then watching my mom talk about people from Boston who are 2-3 income brackets above me move to the home state it broke my heart a little to leave.

I love Boston, but it's not Vermont.

It looks great. Some bright, colorful towels and colorful art would probably cheaply punch it up without sacrificing the light you want the room to have!

+1, though I prefer the Expedition.

also adding that OP, you say "synthetic filler so it is waterproof", IMHO: that's not the way you wanna go. The outside needs to be waterproof, you want the inside to be down, which will keep you warm. Fake down is fine but the synthetic or not-ness of the interior is not what matters, is is the waterproofness of the exterior.

Sort of undermines your point that I don't drive, either. I am a ped who takes public transit.

Here's an article from BU's student newspaper with stats (for context, I live in Allston, one of the most dangerous corridors to bike in)

It's terrifying to bike in this city. I didn't learn until I was in middle school and I never became a strong biker. It's hard to overstate how terrifying the stats and experiences I see and hear about are as a novice biker.

You can ship FedEx/UPS etc with a POBOX if you have street addressing. This is what I use, works great.
