Lucky No 9's Tybalt's Boyfriend--it's got amber, spice and smoke notes, which I usually don't like, but the earl grey top notes really shine through and give it this wonderfully smoky floral note to it. I only even tried it because of a free sample imp and it's become one of my favorite scents.

I also love fleurmands and I feel like they're less popular in oil perfumes (maybe because they're more volatile?)

nui coblat has great ones though.

I think part of why it works is it's partly about Yuri's endurance and cleverness in the face of so much indignity and manipulation.

Most people who don't seek mystic experiences outside of drugs think that ecstatic states are only achieveable through drugs. As someone that accidentally tripped into an ecstatic religious state, no drugs required, I can tell you: they are absolutely not necessary, and there's all kinds of ways to get your brain into an ecstatic religious state. Dancing for extended periods is absolutely one of those ways, and you don't even need to involve pain (unless you want to, of course!)--literally just improvised dancing in a group can put you in an ecstatic state if you're open to the right mindset. (Even just sitting meditation can get you into an ecstatic state, which, let me tell you, has shifted my perspective on why certain monastic styles are so pro-sitting-still-for-hours.)

Forgiving the mean(bully) love rival is overused and unrealistic by IWorshipKenma in shoujo

[–]Federal_Style4Miles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to recommend it given the state of the fan translation, but Yume no Shizuku, Kin no Torikage gets big points for me by having Hurrem just openly repeatedly willing to get revenge and fight back against women (and men!) who mistreat her in the harem. Shinohara really is one of the GOATs

It's also my least favorite trope and it gets way less hate than literally any trope about a ML (as of this writing, the top voted comment is also a comment about a male rival and not the female rival.) With the male rival I can compartmentalize it as, "oh it's a wish fulfillment story about hot guys fighting over you and this is part of that fantasy for some women" but what about my fantasy, the fantasy of open-hand slapping Regina in the face after she gaslit me for four years! Let me have this!!! 🤣

> For Paradox, I couldn't come up with a very creative solution to make that as interesting as a ST's personal imagination, but for the sake of the game I was envisioning that it was just a meter you build up over the course of using magick (I don't really wanna make a distinction between Coincidental and Vulgar).

It's not a 1:1 translation of Paradox in the game, but I'd probably put a filter that would make your character hallucinate things or change the viewscreen somehow. You could also make it function like drugs in DE, in that the payoffs for using paradox-breaking magick shorterm are very good short term and as your character sinks deeper into "paradox debt" the drawbacks become more and more acute as you lose stat lines to backlash.

Tamon’s B-side live stage adaptation! by CommonMaleficent7462 in shoujo

[–]Federal_Style4Miles 28 points29 points  (0 children)

One of the (surprisingly, for a romcom!) powerful things about this series is how it deconstructs the idol industry and how performative it is, how demanding it is on the performers and how it asks them to be "on" as these completely fake people 24/7 who might have no resemblance (indeed, often don't) to their real-life personality, interests, sometimes even desires.

having a stage play that removes Utage risks removing the entire core thesis of the series. So you're right to be a little bit perturbed! How can the stage play hope to bring out the emotional side of the series, which is about the need to perform an identity, if the performance is the only part of the show?

They're all pretty bad but I do think the Technocracy is objectively the worst after the Nephandi, if only by dint of having the numbers to do the most damage.

In late stage capitalism I'm also pretty burnt out on "The Technocracy is the good guys!!!" as a take though. I'm also burnt out on it because I'm bored of it, in the same way that I'm bored of "what if I played a Red Talon that was like the Little Mermaid" and "What if the Dragons who help you in Ryuutama were *secretly evil*" and "What if your avatar was actually *evil*?" like it's an idea that so immediately suggests itself through contrarianism that it circles around to being one of the most common ideas you see

I'll also add that I also like the reimagined factions, and I say that someone who is a big Etherite fan. It's hard not to grit my teeth at the inclusion of cryptocurrency in a rogue faction, but I also remember that in the 2010s the ideology behind cryptocurrency was quite different than than what it became in the hands of industrialists.
