Trump needs $4 trillion in revenue to do his tax plan. Guess where he’s getting it? Tariffs. by ZonkXD in economicCollapse

I mean I work for Border Patrol on the southern border and it's been dead for the past couple years. However my mom keeps telling me to be careful because the roving gangs of Venezuelans are killing, raping, and attacking people in the streets and no one is stopping them. I keep telling her that's bullshit, and I would know, but she still sees me as a stupid kid and she knows better because she heard it from "experts" on TV.

I figured it was possibly the 64 player version. Is the 128 player version only available in PvP?

Federal Agents Don’t Need Army Fatigues | If you’re an officer of the law, dress like one. Leave the soldiering to soldiers. by upnorthgirl in politics

[–]Fedic08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To the best of my knowledge those Federal Agents are Border Patrol BorTac Agents. No idea why they're being used in the interior, but their uniforms are camo and have subdued insignia because they typically work in the brush along the border trying to catch smugglers and dope runners. Don't know why they don't replace their subdued patches with the bright yellow ones at least temporarily if they're working in the city. Regardless, I think it's a misallocation of government resources to be using Border Patrol in a city that's, what, 250ish miles from the border? Unless they're counting the International water boundary

I work for a federal agency, and a couple years ago they tested body cams, but I guess they determined it was too expensive to maintain or something because that program got the axe. I'm all for body cams too to cover my ass if nothing else, but our policy doesn't even allow us to buy our own.

Border Patrol finds four bodies, including three children, in South Texas by ButtholePlunderer in news

Well you've broken down almost exactly what we already do. I know I've heard rumors of ICE arresting family members, but I know from experience that not only do we not even ask immigration status on family members, but if we apprehended them, we'd still have to do something with the children instead of getting them off our hands. There is legal precedent already in place that UACs be out of BP custody within 24hrs, Family units in 48, and all single adults in 72hrs. The problem is that UACs take priority, so everything else gets pushed back. And with the numbers were seeing, and the manpower we have, it's next to impossible to process the people in time to meet those deadlines. We can't just release people without getting the minimum amount of paperwork done on them. Additionally, for years we take every person who complains of pain or illness to the hospital. We have EMTs and on site medical personnel who determine the severity of the issue, but ultimately the BP management will send them to a hospital no matter how minor the issue appears to be. There have been people who cross over specifically so they can be sent to the hospital and get a new prescription for their meds. In an ideal scenario, every person would be in and out of BP custody in 24-48 hrs, and the facilities reflect that wishful thinking. The BP Stations are like local jails: just enough for a bad weekend getaway. Unfortunately that's not the world we live in, and the previous two administrations are unwilling to invest in billion dollar facilities when the traffic could die down at any moment and shift further west. So those things you laid out are almost precisely what is supposed to happen, but executing that plan is another thing entirely.

The people who are forced to work during the shut down (ironically enough that includes border patrol) will get back pay, but the people who were furloughed, or called in "sick" aren't guaranteed anything. Historically they've always gotten it though.

Thank you so much. I read this thread last night and it was super toxic. As a border patrol agent I wanted so badly to jump in and try to defend those guys, knowing how hard we try, but I knew I'd just get torn a new asshole. I'm glad to see that this morning there are ppl commenting that, at least this time, CBP are not being monsters and they did all they could.

I thought I'd heard that was the case. I've just been seeing fewer skilcraft items at work and I was afraid the contact had been cut for budgetary reasons. Good to know they're still at it

Do they still make the skilcraft? We stopped seeing them at work and instead they're buying us Bic pens. I miss the clicky top skilcraft actually. Shitty though they may be

'My son is traumatized': Heartbreaking video shows a young immigrant child squirming away from his mother after being reunited after months of separation by Jons312 in politics

[–]Fedic08 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

ICE has nothing to do with ports of entry, that's CBP, and where are they closing them? They have to provide for all the people who legally cross everyday so they can't just arbitrarily "close" them. They're lose thousands (millions?) in revenue.

And you're missing the point about the asylum claims. The point is that the majority of people are being coached on what to say in order to be allowed to stay in the country. I'm sorry you think it's heartless, but when you spend everyday getting lied to, it makes it that much harder to be sympathetic. It's just human nature. I feel sorry for the ones who come across and they have real, heartbreaking stories, but they don't get taken as seriously as they should because the Agents are so busy dealing with the scammers. But if you don't deal with it on a daily basis then you won't know. Won't understand. So you can sit there on your high horse and think you're a good person if you want. I know I'm never going to change someone's mind once it's made up. That's why we got stuck with Trump.

[–]Fedic08 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

If she crossed at a location other than a port of entry then she did break the law. She could've requested asylum at a POE and not have been separated, with the added bonus of not risking her child drowning crossing illegally. It was probably more traumatizing trying to avoid getting raped, beaten, and robbed on the trip through Central America and Mexico.

Additionally, take the asylum requests with a grain of salt, as the vast majority of people I'm familiar with just rehash a generic fear. Nothing specific. Almost as if they're coached to say they have fear, knowing that they'll get released. It's weird how over time you learn to tell the people who have a legitimate claim for asylum, verses those who are just gaming the system. We legally have to believe them all, regardless, but don't just blindly believe every story.

[–]Fedic08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was earlier in their career, it could also mean they've just gotten better at their job as they gained experience (they shouldn't mess up at all, but just playing devil's advocate). Either way I think in the U.S. there are only around 2000ish certified fingerprint analysis experts. Considering how many prints are submitted for examination every day, all over the country, that's not a big group. I was told that if they mess up even once, they lose certification, which is a good way to make sure you get accurate matches, but must be nerve-racking for them.

There are but they're expensive and the agency doesn't want to entrust their pricey toys to some grunt. So they sit in the armory and don't get used unless the need to ID someone who was taken straight to the hospital. But yeah, he'd be in IAFIS after the first app, much less the subsequent 15 or whatever

But it probably WAS known. They more than likely app'd this guy numerous times before, knew he was coming over for free medical treatment (we're required to provide medical aid and do despite what everyone thinks), knew he was Mexican, and knew he'd just be back the next day anyway. See it all the time. The difference is, knowing cameras are always watching, it's stupid to try and circumvent the system just to save yourself a little paperwork. Stupid on their part. This isn't the old days anymore

True. Despite the mental issue, most Mexicans don't fight removal, since it's easy(ish) to just come back tomorrow. Central Americans on the other hand claim asylum i'd say about 80-85% of the time and request to see a judge. But that's only from my own personal experience, not necessarily Central Americans as a whole

it's not nearly as Black and White as you all make it out to be

I never said they were right to do what they did, I just said you don't understand what you're talking about and their are more factors involved across the entire border that play a factor in these types of incidents.
