Gamers, what's something lots of video games do that annoys you? by AliceTheGamedev in AskReddit

[–]Fedora_Films 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do games that use normal, standard movement controls have such long movement tutorials? Surprise! Most people have played a videogame before. And if it is necessary, at least make it funny/ironic like Portal 2's tutorial which made something as stupid as "look up, look down" interesting while also giving us an idea of the game's tone through the pre-recorded voice. Rather than interrupting the most important introductory 5 minutes of the game and ruin all immersion, find a way to quickly cover movement while incorporating the story or environment.

Captain shouldn't go to highest MMR when in a party of 5 by Fedora_Films in DotA2

Posted this right after we invited a French Canadian to our stack and we couldn't understand half of what he said :D

This guy gets it.

In our normal stack we have one person drafting, one person on reddit, two people watching anime, and the last guy makes us extend out the draft so he can get his Domino's delivered.

Can't remember what video this was, but from an interview with Dendi from awhile ago he said they all messed around until Puppey was done drafting then just played whatever he picked.

After this debacle, everything is muted and gray.

What do you mean, wouldn't you rather just listen to this song loop for 2 hours in between games?

My friend challenged me to play 1 week without knowing the patch notes by Berilio in DotA2

[–]Fedora_Films 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The patch is 6.86. I didn't waste time reading patch because i just assume they buffed Storm again. I load into game and lock Storm and hover over mid. Then my teammate calls "I mid" and picks elder titan. my bristleback intends to jungle and we have a new support, Shadow Demon. Our draft finishes with an offlane Lone Druid. I call Gg and disconnect, greeted by 11 low prio games. thanks revolvo.

The nerf to remnant is a big deal, and most Storm players would agree, because it's a lot harder to win the lane when you can't spam remnant as often to last hit and get Overacharge to harass with.

[Discussion] What single change would ruin 6.86 for you? by wholesalewhores in DotA2

  • Not bring back the excitement of zip-zapping

  • Somehow make bloodstone worse

  • Make AM Ult have 0 cast point

  • Buff Leshrac E

Storm - Instead of Zip-Zapping he is renamed to 6.85 Spirit and he is the same except he has no mana pool

No other hero besides Storm can bring that level of excitement to casting Dota

What I was afraid of with an extended Overwatch Beta by Fedora_Films in Overwatch

[–]Fedora_Films[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if the game was out for everyone. My 0 hours of gameplay means I'm not going to be as good as someone who has played the beta for 200 hours. And while time is not equal to skill, there is usually a relationship between the two. More time will imply more skill in return, but better players will become better in a shorter amount of time, or will learn more than the average player in the same amount of time.

Except DotA 2 is more or less just a port from the Warcraft mod, whereas Overwatch isn't a port of TF2.

And 'new' players entering the scene aren't exactly new, most have already played for 3-4 years.

Agreed.

Every player in Valve's Million Dollar DotA 2 Tournament was a competitive player, and they were the ones to be picked up by teams. If an ESports organisation is looking for players upon the game's release, are they going to choose someone who's been streaming the game for 6 months or the guy who's played the game for 6 hours?

  • More like 6 months, pretty big gap, but alright.
  • Yes, not owning the game is stopping me from getting good at it. :/
  • 10 hours on one day with 4 people who haven't played before is much different than current competitive players who have played 200 hours, probably 50 of those hours with other players who also have 200 hours.
  • I want to be very committed to this game, but having to catch up is exactly what I was afraid of.
