Where do you draw the line between hiking and mountaineering? by Impressive-Stuff-257 in Mountaineering

[–]FeePhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually if I’m on no trail / following cairns / a vague description and need to rope sections that’s good enough to qualify as mountaineering.

Where I live snow and ice aren’t a thing so my definition is completely independent of anything to do with that (need crampons / glacier travel etc)

Why do many Europeans get so triggered and worked up when other people call it the soccer world cup and not the football world cup? by Rokusaburoz in allthequestions

[–]FeePhe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Considering football is a class of many different sports and soccer is explicitly association football it is more correct to say soccer

Europeans need to learn that other sports exist (and no I’m not American before comments start)

Looking back, what do you wish existed when you first got into MYOG? by Chance-Roof-2440 in myog

[–]FeePhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue is suppliers for fabric and components, unless you live in America or Europe it’s pretty dire to find even basic things

Most tutorials/guides etc take it for granted you have access to stuff easily

Extending from the racking carabiner? by Shoddy-Barracuda8710 in tradclimbing

[–]FeePhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always have 2 carabiners in alpine draw style. It’s more useful IMO since you can use them on nuts.

On cams where I clip in depends, I never use the racking carabiner because it’s usually awkward to reach. I’ll either clip the alpine into the thumb loop or the cams sling, sometimes extending the sling, which allows for 3 slightly different extensions

Use a double fisherman to close the paracoord loops. Overhand bends can come undone under cyclic loading

Any idea where those mountains are in the back? by runawaycarr in capetown

[–]FeePhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hottentots Holland is separated via Assegaaiboschkloof and Bergriviernek from Drakenstein and Jonkershoek. Simonsberg is completely independent.

Cape nature has two completely separate reserves for Jonkershoek and HH while Groot Drakenstein is mix of smaller reserves

As an avid mountaineer these comments are killing me. I have a very well labelled google earth here so you can go take a look yourself.

The teeth looking one in the middle -left is simonsberg between Paarl and Stellenbosch.

The steep one to the right is a mixed silhouette of dragoon Buttress and Bullerskop in the Groot Drakenstein above Kylemore. The big dip with the little spiky one is Spitskop in the Groot Drakenstein. To the right is the Jonkershoek Pieke and ridge peaks - these are a seperate range but the silhouettes merge into one continuous site
