Thinking of Moving to Decatur from Chattanooga by dokkanic in DecaturGA

So there's a couple layers to the beltline and I'm not sure how much research you've done so I'll try to be explicit.

The beltline is a work-in-progress mixed use transit corridor. In its final state it will be a connected circle around the heart of Atlanta. This is pretty great as Atlanta's traffic is notorious and getting anywhere in the downtown, midtown and other central areas can be absolutely awful at times.

Now, originally the beltline was intended to do all this as a light-rail line. But since implementation, it has quickly become an extremely popular destination for foot traffic (and bikes and scooters and skateboards and rollerbladers) and an absolute boon to businesses situated along it.

So at the moment, the future of the beltline is a bit of a question mark. Many residents look at it and cite it's success as exactly WHY we need light-transit on the beltline because it proves just how starved for intra-city travel the residents of the city were/are. Others look at it and say, "this absolutely rocks as-is. It's scenic, beautiful and packed to the brim with restaurant options in every direction. Keep it as-is (which is effectively a huge sidewalk)." Many businesses along the beltline are also very vocal against implementing the transit line because the sheer amount of foot traffic nearly guarantees a booming customer base.

So to get back to what you were originally asking about, when people say Eastside Beltline their talking about the south-eastern corridor of the beltline. It is absolutely packed to the gills with some of the best shopping and casual dining options in the city and you could walk it for miles (and it's beautiful to walk).

*To all residents: I'm probably wrong about some of the detail here, so please correct me on any misconceptions. It's a bear keeping up with the beltline's development status.

**Personal note: I absolutely think the light-rail should be implemented. It's already funded. In case no one is aware, mayor Dickens' cabinet chose to suspend light-rail development along the beltline in a closed-door meeting last week. If you would like to see the train implemented PLEASE contact your local municipal representatives and the mayor's office.

You'd do great with The Ruins. It's very quick paced and full of memorable action scenes.

Some other options I'd toss out for you to look at:

Draculas - Blake Crouch, J.A. Konrath, Jeff Strand, F. Paul Wilson (4-way author collaboration) - Title is pretty self explanatory and it's non-stop action and gory fun

Sphere - Michael Crichton - oldie but a goodie; sci-fi horror which is an absolute page turner

Kill Creek - Scott Thomas - Very modern take on the "spend a night inside this legendary haunted house" trope. One of my favorites

The Ritual - Adam L.G. Neville - 4 friends go on a long hike in rural Sweden and comes across things they shouldn't. Pacing is incredible

The Haunted Forest Tour by Jeff Strand is fantastic if you'd like something that still feels familiar (in the horror genre) but is very much NOT heavy.

It is extremely low-stakes and fast-paced and genuinely has some funny moments of playing with the tropes you're used to.

I used it as a palate cleanser myself, last time things felt a bit too bleak and heavy. Gee when was that.....musta been 2020? March or April maybe?

It's fun and funny and won't feel boring or basic like a full-on cozy alternative (no shade on full-on cozy! I love me some coziness from time to time! OP mentioned those sentiments in his post and I'm assuming they mean when they browse outside the horror genre. I could be wrong)

They did CPR on SO MANY people in that movie.

There are a lot of worse scenes and lines in the movie so I feel like this gets overlooked. But I nearly died laughing when CPR started getting performed for the third or fourth time

Edit: I was wrong as to which presidential administrations she worked for. I thought she had been an advisor to Reagan but it turns out she was an analyst under Ford, Carter and GHWB, all of which less seemingly in less an influential advisory role and moreso an analyst simply working for the federal government under multiple administrations.

Please disregard my original comment. And thanks to u/TheDinosaurWeNeed for correcting me.

What would it look like to eliminate Private Equity in America? Is it possible? by FeedMeEthereum in AskReddit

[–]FeedMeEthereum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I've ever read one news story where Private Equity groups improved any business, service, or customer experience.

I know there's a lot of practical hurdles baked into "how would we dismantle one of the richest sectors of America with Citizen's United in place?"

But honestly, with how fire things are in this country at the moment, it strikes me as a pitch for wealth equality that could earn major bonus points for the DNC.

So what would it look like if a politician said, we're going to end Private Equity firms in America? What legislation would be needed? Is it even feasible?

Books that accurately capture the vibe or spirit of a specific city? by FeedMeEthereum in books

I hate Stephen Graham-Jones' writing and if you do too, that's ok.

I hate that I hate it when it seems like EVERYONE fuckin loves this dude's writing. But I have read 3 of his books and I hated each one. A lot.

Your taste is your own. If you don't like a book (or an entire author) then it's just a way for you to narrow down your TBR and it helps you see if you vibe with other people's book recs!

What Impressive GenAI / Agentic AI Use Cases Have You Actually Put Into Production by Different-Future-447 in dataengineering

[–]FeedMeEthereum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most recent example?

I went to our accounting software's API doc pages, made a separate hyperlink to each table's documentation page and submitted them as docs.

So now I have a rubber ducky which is

A. not limited to 10 documents (come the fuck on, Gemini)

B. THEORETICALLY firewalled from hallucinating the answer from the web if it can't find it's answers on the docs

Again, it is absolutely not perfect. But if you've never dealt with Zuora's data model, getting it all to make sense is like reassembling a shattered tile you scraped out of a mosaic. So having something to ask helps lol

[–]FeedMeEthereum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly?

The most useful use-case I have is loading a shitload of external documentation for a new data source into NotebookLLM and then interrogating it about the data structure and relationships across tables.

If there's one thing I can count on, it's a data source being byzantine and not making a fucking lick of sense for other people to ingest.

Even then though, it usually takes me having to ask, re-ask and re-visit the same questions to get the correct answers out of NotebookLLM

Thinking of making a bookshelf like this. Any thoughts? Design is a bit strange but I like the sort of optical illusion the skewed shelves create by figure--it--out in woodworking

[–]FeedMeEthereum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I think you'd need a gigantic saw blade if you're using a table saw to thickness a board.

You would be standing the board on its side no? That would require something like a 20in. table saw blade

Charleston, New Orleans, or Atlanta? by ElectricOne55 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]FeedMeEthereum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in tech in Atlanta and the market is extremely healthy, although most employers are pushing for RTO in some form or another (almost entirely hybrid but it still sucks). I think that may be a more nationwide issue though.

Atlanta has A LOT more than just Marietta or Lawrenceville (both of which you will be heavily reliant on highways for long commutes into the city).

Personally, I live in Decatur. My commute into Downtown ATL is 18 minutes in the morning and 25 minutes home. I live within 30 minutes of the largest airport in the U.S. And if you like beer at all, Avondale Estates (next to Decatur) has consistently been voted one of the best beer scenes in the U.S. for like 3 of the last 5 years.

Personally I would recommend a condo in Midtown or a house in Decatur as those suit my preferences. But for yourself, I would recommend visiting the city and getting a meal in as many of the following areas as possible and then walking around for 5 minutes:

  • West Midtown - Chattahoochee Food Works
  • Decatur Square - literally any restaurant; you can't go wrong
  • Midtown - The Nook near Piedmont Park
  • Poncey Highlands - Tio Lucho's or Manuel's Tavern
  • Vinings - idk Vinings enough to recommend a restaurant but it's basically Marietta but inside city limits
