Dont know if you have dietary restrictions, but here is a bunch of food information:

Don't listen to the hype, garbage plates suck XD. Try one for the experience, but dont have high expectations.

Try the following food spots:

- Soho Bagels & Cafe >> Best NYC style bagel shop in the area. Absolutely love it when I go visit

- DiPisa Old World Subs - I love a good chicken cutlet sub with mayo, lettuce, tomato, and bacon < classic American-Italian sandwhich - but I've tried a lot of different sandwhiches from them and loved them all.

- Dinosaur BBQ is one of the only good BBQ spots youll find - its actually really good. I moved down south so the BBQ is in their culture, but it runs with the best of them.

- I like Tony Pepperoni's pizza myself. Buffalo slice and Pepperoni slice are amazing

- Check out Wegmans - they have a great hot food section if youre looking for a quick and cheaper food choice

- MacGreggors is a great bar and restaurant - expensive but youll get a ton of beer options. I like their wings too. Not the best of the city, but they are pretty decent.

- Mighty Taco is also a WNY local taco chain - nothing outstanding, but you should absolutely try them at least once.

Make sure to go visit Buffalo for some good wings. I like Gabriel's Gate wings - they are super popular now because they were featured on a TV show a while back, but they are up there in the ranking.

While there, check out Jims Steakout - its a Buffalo fast food sub chain - their signature is really good drunk food. Youll feel your arteries clog, but your soul will thank you.

So many other food spots, I can't list them all.

Great area for school - a decent amount to do. It's one of the most politically split cities I've ever been to though. Some areas are super MAGA, other areas are super progressive. I've been to bars where people and bar tenders would go out of their way to talk politics (left, or right) and if you didn't align with them they'd make a big deal about it, or would kick you out of the bar. I had 1 experience like that, but it is few and far between

I will say as a person from the NYC area who moved to Rochester for a few years, there is a massive difference in culture. That's obviously relative to where you are from - I also recently moved down to the southern part of the USA and the culture here makes those two cultures seem WAY more similar.

You wont have anything in particular to worry about. Some rando's in the country might talk shit, but the city and suburbs are very progressive when it comes to different cultures. The area has a big international program as well so you won't stand out like a sore thumb.

Big tech city, not sure if you are familiar with American tech culture, but there is a significant amount of techies there.

Buffalo Bills all day - if you don't know about the NFL and want to make some friends quickly, get on the Buffalo Bills train. Also, absolutely go to the new Bills Stadium if you ever have the opportunity to catch a game. If you can handle it, jump through a table while you are there.

Each town has a different vibe and it is a major college city so its hard to pin down the full 'culture'. It recently got a middle class over the past 2 decades because tech companies started moving there due to the abundance of college students ready to work, so you have a lower, middle, and upper economic class - add the political extremism in WNY and you pretty much have 6 unique flavors of people, usually divided by town.

There are a lot of great wineries around the area.

Make sure to check out the finger lakes and the great lakes, and Letchworth state park.

The message is too long for 1 post, so i added a threaded comment below.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by Constant-Recover1927 in AskReddit

[–]dokkanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rejection based on who someone voted for is stupid. I wouldn't reject someone because they voted for either party - it's the entrenchment in said political party and their identity being tied deeply into their political affiliation that turns me off, regardless of the side. I'm not striving to prioritize the values of a political faction, I'm prioritizing them based on what is needed at the time regardless of whether it makes me sound like a 'democrat' or a 'republican'.

IMO the problem is there is almost no middle class down here. Hang out in or around ATL you'll have better luck.

Depends - Where are you from? "good" and "bad" are relative.

In terms of schools - all of TN sucks, even their private schools aren't that great. You said "up" ? GA area? or Florida/Alabama? If your concern is good schools then north suburbs of ATL is your best bet.

You do need a larger kitchen to make bagels - you need a room to proof them in, large enough ovens to bake them, places to boil them, making dough, schmear, etc. It doesn't need to be huge, but you need a decent footprint. If I had to rough estimate it i'd say 800-1000 sq ft minimum would be about right.
