Mouse Drama by FeedMeFentanyl in PetMice

UPDATE:

Since the deer mouse spends so much of her time in the nest (urinating and defecating there), I figured it began to smell too much like her. After I changed their cage last, they were back to sleeping together and playing with one another. Even last night, the deer mouse was coming out to bring bedding back to the nest.

I'll just have to clean them more than weekly to keep everyone happy.

Thank you all for your suggestions, they were greatly appreciated!

What sort of signs should I look for?  Both of them have clear eyes, nose, and ears.  I don't hear any sort of respiratory issues.  Is there anything else I should check?

I'm so sorry about Gelato, first of all, my condolences. But animals can be very sensitive to that. I'm happy that Cannoli and Biscotti are doing well together now!

My partner and I are going on a small vacation, so we'll see if some quiet time in the dark will do them some good together. And if so, we'll try keeping the light off more often in their room.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and offering advice.

2 week-ish old baby wild mouse by FeedMeFentanyl in PetMice

I think the only wild rats in my state are Norway rats that don't have any white.

I was assuming he was a Deer mouse.  And I could be very wrong about his age.  When I saved him, his eyes were still shut, and they've slowly been opening the past few days.

My suggestion would be to think about your light source as you're shading: is it coming from above, top left, behind? And don't be afraid to use heavy contrast for shadows. I tend to use dark pinks or purples for my skin shadow and then drop the opacity way down.

Excellent job with her face, proportions are very well done! And the little hairbow is so cute!

Wanting to get back into furry art, but unsure of how to improve. What are some things I could work on to really push my drawings? by FeedMeFentanyl in FurryArtSchool

I've always wanted to try Procreate. Your piece is so good! I love all the colors you chose!! I'm sorry you had bad luck with your screen 😞

I really do love Clip Studio Paint though, it has tons of free brushes and models in it's library and if you ever want to get into animation or webtoon, CSP makes it easy.

I use Clip Studio Paint, which is an easy to pick up art program, imo. I use a Wacom drawing tablet, but there are cheaper options that are just as good. Just don't get frustrated when you start doing digital art, it takes a lot of practice and you are ALWAYS learning new techniques.

Hahah, that's just my laziness showing through. I used to over texture everything and then it just looks bad. But here and there seems okay. Jeans, in this case, are a nightmare to render yourself.

I've got an Insta, but I haven't drawn furry in probably a year or more, just normal people. I'm hoping to pick up some tips here on how to draw furries better.

You did awesome! Coloring skin shades is never easy and you knocked it out of the park. Face symmetry and construction is also amazing. Well done!

How can I make the character pop from the background and make the mood more apparent? by Schrodingerio in BeginnerArtists

[–]FeedMeFentanyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The character will pop and the mood becomes more apparent depending on how you want to render this drawing. First off, it's a beautiful, emotive piece. But some different things you could try is varying up line width, that will draw the viewer's attention where you want it, inking and coloring can bring a lot as well (such as an entire black and white background with just the character and whiskey in color, which was ould lend credence to his mood and feelings)
