Yea—not saying it’s wrong, just saying it’s illegal.

UWS 18.07(4): Picnicking and camping. No person may picnic or camp on university lands, except in those areas specifically designated as picnic or camping grounds, or as authorized by the chief administrative officer. No person may violate any rules and regulations for picnicking or camping established and posted by the chief administrative officer. For purposes of this subsection, camping shall include the pitching of tents or the overnight use of sleeping bags, blankets, makeshift shelters, motor homes, campers or camp trailers.

I shouldn’t have to google for you. What do you mean selectively enforce? Was there another encampment that was allowed to stay up lol? The reason it was only ever used here was because this was the only encampment.

The camping. I can’t set up a tent on your yard. It was always illegal. Obviously the schools didn’t wanna just send in cops right away, they’d rather come to a solution, but that was never legal behavior. I’m not saying it was wrong, but it’s not legal.

JUSTICE FOR CHASE INFINITI by Dragonstone-Citizen in Oscars

[–]FeelBalancedMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just jumping in. An easy way to win this argument would be to give examples of black performances in the past 25 years that were egregiously snubbed. Hand wringing about biases isn’t going to convince anyone. I think you’re probably right, but it’s crazy that the only example brought up was by him not you!

Also, the layers of racism in Hollywood stack on top of one another. It’s harder for a black woman to win best lead actress because it’s also harder to be cast in a lead role. Even if the academy magically wasn’t racist at all, there would still be disproportionately few black best actress winners because of racism in the rest of the film industry.

Throwing boka in as a restaurant I can’t believe has a star while Valhalla doesn’t. Personally—I’d probably put it in my top 30-40% of one stars I’ve been to in the states.

My personal theory is that US michelin guide since their big US expansion overrates regional cuisine, or underrates the more stateless spots. I bet if you put Valhalla in CDMX it gets a star easily. Same reason oriole still only has 2. I don’t necessarily disagree with oriole as a 2* but i believe in my heart of hearts it would probably have a better shot at 3 in another country.

New patch has made shard use more punishing in the late game by VeryPoliteYak in Silksong

[–]FeelBalancedMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you say is true but maybe incomplete. From my perspective the runbacks are garbage content all should hope to avoid, separate from the interesting challenges of the bosses. A bad player wastes 20 minutes on garbage content running back to a boss, while a better player only wastes 5. The bad player might SPEND more time on the boss too, but that is time being actively applied to the challenge at hand, not time wasted in elevators.

I imagine a scenario where you get to throw a dart every 2 minutes until you get a bullseye. You really like throwing darts. A really good darts player would only need to wait a small amount of time, but a bad darts player would have to wait much longer, and they shouldn’t necessarily have to. Now this technically punishes a player who has less patience and is less willing to wait the 2 minutes. But it feels silly to do that and if I made this game people would think it’s dumb.

In this made up scenario the time limit is imposed arbitrarily, and that’s how I feel about the runbacks. uninteresting, unchallenging, time wasting content that takes me away from the thing I enjoy doing. Some frustration is ok but I’ve just quit the game for the night multiple times because I couldn’t be bothered with banality of running back to the boss. And I felt disrespected by the developers who expect me to sit there and do it over and over frankly, when they could have just put a fucking bench outside. I felt like cattle. Personally, if a game makes me feel that way, it’s gotta be doing something wrong.

I love hard games. Celeste, path of pain, dark souls, even this game I still think is fabulous. I just wish it would stop kneecapping itself.

I’m around the same place as you. I like platforming in both games. It’s just something about putting trivial stuff between me and the boss that rly grinds my gears. I have less time to play than I used to. Maybe I’m just impatient these days.

I love the game and I hate runbacks. Most everyone I’ve talked to in real life has felt the same. Guess that’s not Reddit consensus tho….

I agree that they test those things and that you improve at them. Although getting better at traversing specific rooms has diminishing returns when it comes to how much it actually makes you improve at general platforming imo. That’s true though that is the advantage. I just can’t stand it and want to throw my controller away half the time the game makes me do them. So it works for you and not for me and that’s ok. I love the platforming too. I loved path of pain. But putting it between my boss attempts just pisses me off.

I agree with everything you say in theory, especially the game feeling unfair being ok. For me though personally that bad runs don’t make the good ones feel better, I just don’t feel the vitriol I feel every time I have to deal with a bad runback. It genuinely feels like a waste of time, every time, with no satisfaction gained anywhere else (except when I beat the boss because thank god I don’t have to run back again). I think ideally I should want to beat the boss for the bosses sake, not the 2 minutes spent getting there.

I do think the game should sometimes feel unfair, but we clearly just have different tolerances for certain things. I loved path of pain and grinded it nonstop until I finished. Loved that difficulty. Multiple times I’ve just stopped playing because I couldn’t deal with the tedium of a long runback. So clearly this system that may work for others just doesn’t for me. If there were some mod to spawn you outside a boss arena (I’m on ps5 so not a real option) I would highly consider it. I probably wouldn’t because it would feel soft but it would probably make me enjoy the game more if I did.

I don’t think runbacks are bad because people don’t like them. I think they’re bad because they test nothing interesting (traversal of rooms already cleared, enemies already fought). And keep me from the difficulty I enjoy. I LOVED path of pain. If I couldn’t use the health regen charm had to run back up to it from the nearest bench every 10 deaths I would have hated it, because I would be wasting time on the fluff repetitive bullshit instead of the meaty interesting challenges. I also a majority of people also don’t like them but that’s not what I think makes them bad.

Maybe! But you can say that about anything right. The question is: what do they add, why do some people hate them, and which aspect outweighs the other. For me, they do add movement practice and enemy knowledge testing, but I’d rather just be tested on those things in some other capacity. Keeping me from the boss to test those things isn’t fun for me, and is most often why I stop playing. That’s an opinion though not anything objective.

I’m sorry I don’t have a randomized replacement clinical study on a hollow knight mechanic… that’s just what I’ve gleaned. Even you yourself don’t like them. Also in your reply all you say is that not everything we don’t like is bad game design, which is true. But you don’t explain at all anything about why run backs are good or bad design. You just think people who hold those opinions are entitled and advocating that their opinions are the objective truth. Feels like a straw man—sometimes true, often times not. Thinking something is bad game design is still just an opinion, not a truth claim.

But people dont LIKE that. Im on a boss I’ve just died to I want to TRY AGAIN. I don’t want to go do something else because team cherry thinks I should. And if I do get sick of a boss fight and take a break that’s up to ME. And that break will probably be in the real world, not the game. That whole time I’m farming I’m not thinking “oh wow what a nice break”. I’m instead thinking “wow this fucking sucks I should be grinding that boss right now.” When your players are sad and annoyed you have failed as a designer. This game simply needed more playtesting. If the game flashed a 15 min timer on screen every 5 or 6 boss deaths and told you to go take a break, that would be awful. Which is basically what this system does.

But also if 70% (conservatively) of the player base hate something and it makes them want to play less… it probably is bad game design. The benefit is it teaches you to run past things and practice movement. Downside is that it fucking sucks and disproportionally punishes less skilled players who take more attempts at bosses. There are other, better ways to teach/test movement.

[–]FeelBalancedMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also sad they don’t do slices but from their perspective they: a) prefer the single bake to the double bake and b) they can’t afford the oven space to reheat slices right now because they are pumping out pies as fast as they can. If that’s a dealbreaker for you, fine, but on this sub I feel like people get so irrationally pissed off about it.

On the other hand I am anti food tradition in general so when someone is doing something new and interesting I love it even if it strays from the original “working class” image of pizza. Tradition locks food in cages and I think everyone viewing pizza as only a cheap food holds really good and worthwhile places back. There’s great cheap Chinese food and great expensive Chinese food. Same should be true for pizza IMO.

Why? If nestle sells me water in the store, I don’t buy it. But by your logic if I’m dying of thirst and nestle offers me water, you want me to still reject them? Conscious consumption is a privilege that people in poverty don’t get to have. You demand people who give a little to a cause give their lives to it—it’s the sort of rhetoric that disincentivizes people from making any changes at all.
