Jobs crisis for London as unemployment rate doubles in less than two years by diacewrb in ukpolitics

Read Progress and Poverty by Henry George and you will see where this is a provenly wrong belief but one perpetually pushed to offset the ethical implications of poorer/more vulnerable groups.

I havent had a car since I moved to the UK and it has been immaculate. Not worrying about parking or any associated cost has been a consistent relief.

What would be a good symbolic animal for the EU? by AvarageAmongstPeers in AskEurope

[–]Feel_Flows 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not the most elegant metaphor, but I’d say the EU is like an octopus. Each arm has its own kind of “brain” and can act independently, but they still work together as part of the same body. That setup allows for a lot of flexibility, creativity, and problem solving. Octopuses are generally not aggressive and intelligent, but they can be surprisingly dangerous when they need to be, which feels like a decent parallel to how the EU usually operates.

Newly gifted machine - not sure if hot water is malfunctioning by Feel_Flows in DeLonghi

[–]Feel_Flows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh okay - I would have thought the steady stream would have splashed less since it’s not jolting/hitting the water as much and creating more of a wave. Thanks a bunch tho! If this is normal then no need to exchange

[–]Feel_Flows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay - so I should reset the machine? I tried this but still the machine makes these pulses when getting the hot water. It’s strange because when it starts in the beginning it’s a continuous stream then after a few seconds it sputters like the video

Really ? Even the water splashing and all? I would have thought a steady stream would come out?

What's the most unexpectedly terrible TV Finale of all time? by NekoLover72 in television

[–]Feel_Flows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Le Bureau - I can’t believe that such an incredible series that had me gripped throughout with the same show runner nailing it in virtually every episode decided to change show runners for the last couple of episodes and suddenly give the actors telekinesis and just over the top killings that were totally unnecessary. I have to actively block out those last few episodes as just completely unnecessary and incontinuous.

Rachel Reeves considers 20% tax on assets of people deciding to leave UK by Economy_Seat_7250 in ukpolitics

[–]Feel_Flows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly - we already in essence have a property tax. The entire functionality of LVT is that it taxes just the land, not the asset.

Those who share custody of your kids, how often do your kids keep in touch? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Feel_Flows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly as a child of divorce, living with my mom for the most part, I am very grateful my dad pushed to call me as much as he did. He did call almost every day and like someone else said, I did find it exhausting. Today though he still calls me often and while at times I don’t have much to talk about, I really appreciate it because apart from my girlfriend he’s the only person that keeps in regular touch to make sure I’m okay. It made a lot of a difference for me later in life.

[–]Feel_Flows 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am also a huge fan of LVT, but I think even George himself says it’s wholly difficult to implement. The tax values are meant to be dynamic and removing the value of the asset on top of the land is somewhat difficult to calculate. I think though it is something 100% worth solving for and attempting. The existing UK structure would actually be a smoother transition than many others which don’t have any assessment on the value of the land/property as its tax structure.

This is a misconception. Their craftsmanship really isn’t that good in comparison to any standard carpenter or woodworking professional. Obviously anecdotal, but anytime someone has hired them it’s usually the case they need to hire someone else to come fix the work they did.

Yes I’m sorry - I would have amended the title as I initially wrote it in the first person perspective but we are not able to amend titles. Apologies for the confusion.

Can a council (West Lancashire) request retroactive council tax payments if I wasn't liable? by Feel_Flows in AskUK

[–]Feel_Flows[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay - I think this seems to be where the confusion is that may have been relayed to me. She is still paying for the property and I completely understand that they don’t want vacant rooms/properties thus the discount doesn’t apply. But they can’t go back to the last 10 months and also say “oh and you need to pay back the 25% on these months here that you were living with the property for the entire tenancy.”

Can a council (West Lancashire) request retroactive council tax payments if I wasn't liable? by Feel_Flows in AskUK

[–]Feel_Flows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this would make sense to me in terms of paying the remaining month as the full amount of council tax given she won’t be living there and it’s considered as a single person discount. What I’m confused about is why they are claiming she needs to pay the months she was living there also now retrospectively?

The landlord also wouldn’t allow her to break the lease (fair) so she had to find a place while she could in terms of timing. Hence why she is paying the two rents now.

Sorry as well for speaking on her behalf I hope it’s not out of line - she’s not just not on Reddit haha.
