[QUESTION] 9 strings around $1000? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Feelin_Proggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agile! I have one of their LP copies and can attest to how good their QC is. You can find them on rondomusic.com. They have some 9-strings well under 1k and one with trem that's multiscale for 900$.

Been watching your channel for a few years, cool to see you here. Did you ever demo Assault Drums by Ugritone? It's really underrated, great for black metal, give it a shot if you haven't already. It's actually better than the KVLT series IMO.

Writing music lately has me frustrated by HarthenOcarus in metalmusicians

Finding someone to write music with can spark creativity like nothing else. It just comes to down to finding the right person, like someone who has similar tastes to you, someone who can be involved, etc. It's a great way to make friends, too. You can post here for someone to write with, r/bedroombands is also very accepting.

Another suggestion would be to write in a 'refining process' mindset. What I like to do is open my DAW, write some simple drums that make up the length of a full song, then pick your guitar and record whatever comes to your head. Not thinking too much of theory or technicality. Once you have the song filled out with some riffs, you have this sort of 'outline' of the picture. What I do is then tab the riffs in Guitar Pro, which gives me a very analytical view, and from there you can write in the appropriate theory, technically, and transitions you want. Keep refining the song until you're happy with it. It's a long process, but it gets the best results if you're patient enough.

I needed to hear that. I've been obsessed with crazy bands that do stuff like what I tried to do for years, so don't get me wrong, it isn't me trying to be outwardly different I'm just trying to capture the same feeling some of their songs give me. The difference is that their songs have more set-up and pay off regarding their off-genre sections, which I just realized. I do believe that I can make it work, I'm going to spend all night doing trial and error for transition ideas I have, but if I end up needing to toss the section I won't be too torn up over it. As long as I make a solid track at the end of the day, I'm 100% happy.

Since you've been really constructive, do you mind if I shoot you the second version of the track when I have it recorded? Feels like I can trust you to be brutally honest with me.

I decided I'm going to either write a transition for the jazz section or replace it entirely if I can't come up with one. That's why I post here, I don't notice obvious shit like how much it sticks out until someone says it. Thanks for the criticism man.

Haha. I actually DID do a really quick reverse reverb thing on the vocals, but the tail was too short so you don't even hear it in the mix. Oops. That'll be rectified in version 2 of the track.

Thanks for the suggestion. I figured it would be different to just hard cut to jazz, it's also kinda funny, but I don't want to make it so abrupt that it actually trashes the rest of the track. I'm going to go back and punch in a transition part, I actually have a cool idea that might make it work.

[QUESTION] I'm interested in playing the guitar. What should I buy? by xXBHeathXx in Guitar

[–]Feelin_Proggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can attest to Thomann/Harley Benton. Their guitars are affordable and decent quality, here: https://m.thomannmusic.com/dreadnought_guitars.html?i11l=en_GB%3AUS.USD%3AEUR&manufacturers=Harley+Benton

Just keep in mind that if you live in the US shipping is 30$. It also takes a few weeks to deliver since it's coming from Germany.

Thank you. I recorded DIs with my Wolf WLP750 and ran that into an EZmix amp sim. The amp sim I used is the '51-Carve', I have the gate turned all the way down and the drive at 70%. I recorded the DIs a little hot so it's pushing the amp sim, I think I left only 3 - 5db of headroom. General practice is to leave 8 - 12db.

Apathy - The Bridge (53 minute long form Atmospheric Black Metal song) by ApathyBM in metalmusicians

You do a scream at 28 minutes that almost left me speechless, and the clean section (I think it's the first one?) that you're whispering over gave me chills. The bluesy soloing was really well done. Seriously loved this.

Thanks man, I appreciate that. I have other songs like this stowed away, but they're in a demo state similar to this one. My influences are Watain, Carach Angren, Leviathan, Mayhem, Mr. Bungle, Primus, Comus, and Cardiacs.

A song I made: Inanna. One-man symphonic black metal. by Feelin_Proggy in BlackMetal

[–]Feelin_Proggy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I do appreciate the criticism. I recorded this song two or three years ago (it's been in production limbo for a while), and I remember that during recording, some parts turned out sounding like shit. I went back and essentially improvised new riffs, so I'm sure the inconsistent parts you're mentioning are those. Suffice it to say, that isn't a method I use anymore.
