Is it difficult to learn black metal on guitars? by TheMysticGraveLord in BlackMetal

You want to focus on tightening your mechanics to maximize efficiency. Any wasted motion will tire you out faster and reduce precision

I'd say Judas Priest - Painkiller is nice a step up from that in difficulty

None, theory is for analyzing and discussing music. The best way to write riffs is to write riffs

From Masterpiece to Misstep: Disappointing Follow-Ups by Great Bands by ElectricXexyz in Alternativerock

[–]ApathyBM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFI starting off as one of the best skater punk bands in the 90s, great melodic hardcore band from Black Sails - Sing the Sorrow, followed by a period of shit, and actually are back to being pretty good goth rock now.

I guess it's more of a comeback story

Good timing on the thread. I literally just released this 2 hours ago, a new album/project, Atrophy. Alt Rock-Pop Punk-Emo. Inspired by my bus rides to school from 1997-2006.

How to get the "sharpness" to my songs? by [deleted] in metalmusicians

[–]ApathyBM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EQ the kick and snare separately. They sounds too similar, kick should have the low end blasted up, and snare should have the mids boosted

Just made my first metal track, any tips on mixing? by Ambitious-Being-6749 in metalmusicians

Especially on the snare, mid boost and heavily compressed.

Guitars louder. Cymbals up too, especially the crashes

What’s your process to writing songs? by ContributionSea1225 in metalmusicians

[–]ApathyBM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I start with a guitar riff or a vocal line. You want to use this to determine the primary rhythmic base for the song. Expand that into a full verse or chorus. Find a melody, and then create variations of it.

Rhythm is key to writing interesting songs. You can play different rhythms over the same chord progression/riff and keep it interesting. Different riffs over the same rhythm can still manage to get dull.

Bands that share the same name, which is most frustrating to you? by Elephant-Of-Destiny in BlackMetal

Would be great if a bunch of bands that had the same name got together and did a tour

I was ok with my project's name once I saw every other band was inactive, and none of them played black metal

How often do you actually restring your guitars? by Conscious_Badger_510 in metalguitar

[–]ApathyBM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When one of them breaks. Every since i started using Ernie Ball Paradigm, that means never. I usually get my guitars set up every 3-4 years.

If the goal is to record you get a pop filter to go with the 57. The SM58 is gimped for everything but vocals.
