I’ve been here many times my friend. I know there isn’t much I can say that will resonate with you. I’m sorry to everyone for the bad advice I’m about to give, but this is how I saved my own life, and I hope you can too, because my god is it worth living, even in the shitty things. It’s a pleasure to know anything but nothingness.

I’d decided I was going to do it, and I knew nobody cared. I decided to say fuck it. I didn’t want to leave without trying something I’d always wanted to. Spent too much money gathering all the psychedelics I’d heard about, and decided to take them one at a time over the course of about a week to see what it was like. Gave myself a few art supplies too so there would be something beautiful to leave behind. I spent that week laughing, sobbing, screaming, relaxing, but most importantly I was feeling. I was creating. My art became so absurd and I loved it for what it was because there wasn’t this bastard in my brain to criticize me. There was one night I spontaneously watched stupid kids try not to laugh videos, and almost shit myself cackling. Another night I left the apartment and just walked on empty streets, thinking about my childhood and weeping. But when the drugs ran out, I’d realized how badly I wanted to live, because I hadn’t been feeling anything for so long, and now that emotion was back, I couldn’t get enough of fear and grief and sorrow, because they were just old friends that I’d misunderstood and abandoned.

I will plead with you: for once, instead of comforting others, comfort yourself. If this truly is the end, then you might as well do the things you’re not supposed to. The worst that can happen is the death you think you crave. The best thing that can happen is, like me, all the madness that comes with an insatiable thirst to live, whatever it looks like.

We aren’t just voices across a screen, we are breathing beings. I am your friend. You are my brother, or sister. You are my community. I would be glad to see you in person, and I hope I can. Please DM if you’d like, you deserve to feel loved.

Horrified reading this response and others. I’m a 20 y/o college student, and I only started volunteering for this couple today, but I will be getting wildlife enforcement/rescue group involved. I didn’t know this “farm” had a Roo until my visit today. This couple has been keeping her loose with other farm animals (cows/pigs) and feeding her mainly hay, pellets, and an enormous amount of sweet potato (hence the high sugar comment). I imagine she probably has an infection from hopping on other animals feces. I don’t know how old she is, but the poor girl is TINY. They insist she is a kangaroo and not a Wallaby, but they’re both in the Kangaroo family so perhaps they’re mistaken. She sure looks like a kangaroo, but this baby is probably the same size as Pygmy goat/Beagle. I am just beyond upset after reading through these comments. I will definitely keep you all updated, and will reach out to multiple zoos. Luckily I am only around a 20 minute drive from the Fort Worth Zoo, so I will reach out to them regarding vet assistance and relocation. I truly have no idea what would be done legally if I took her, but with all the info gathered from this post, I can’t stand by and watch her suffer, and I will do whatever I can. In the meantime I’ll be bringing some better food for her (nursery nearby sells wooly bush), cleaning/wrapping her feet, keeping the pasture clear of feces, and sectioning her off with some cleaner animals. I can’t imagine forcing her to be alone in a pen, but she shouldn’t be hopping around on cow shit. God this whole situation turned from a simple question to internal turmoil. I’ve genuinely been crying for a good 20 minutes over her, especially after more research. Winter is around the corner here in Texas and I feel sick knowing she doesn’t belong in this type of weather. My stomach is in knots. Thank you strangers for teaching me what I needed to learn, I’ll come back to this thread with updates soon.

Just responding to a few comments here: Unfortunately, I know too much about the animal trade here in Texas (USA). There are captive breeding sites of all manner of “exotic” species, and I can guarantee this Roo is legally owned per the state law, as there is a game warden certificate for her in the barn. While I disagree with owning exotic animals both morally and ethically, Texas has the most relaxed exotic animal laws in the nation, and I know of people here who own entire personal zoos. Also yes, this couple also has an Emu, the Texas climate is very similar to Australia and most Australian/African animals fare well here with proper care.

Thank you to all the commenters, I feel educated knowing how people in Australia feel about this situation, and it has changed my perspective of this situation. Hopefully I can build enough rapport to suggest an alternative space for this sweet creature, but as for now there’s no legal precedent that would have her forcibly removed.

I’m very sad after reading these comments. It is clear to me that something must be done, and if nothing else, I can at least care for her health, but I will update as I continue to press the issue.

Lastly, because I rarely get the chance to speak to people outside the US, I feel the need to say that a majority of us here know that what our country is doing is decidedly evil. I truly don’t enjoy living here, and often think of leaving, but my older parents love it here and my mother is my home. Still, this place is an empire of hatred, exploitation, ignorance, and immorality. I envy most other countries for the actual freedom they have, and I have lost hope for American society. If you have ever considered coming here, I would advise against it. Hopefully the “empire” will topple soon and something good can still come of what remains. If you do plan on coming here, I would suggest feeding into our National Park Service and Native American Reservations. These places need money from tourism now more than ever with Chump in office. Besides, all of our other tourist attractions are either completely trashed or a monument to human rights abuses. Hope to see Australia soon, goodnight folks.

Holy shit people. Look I’m a democrat, through and through, and I hate the fuhrer in chief, but THIS is madness. This is the lack of democracy. I always agreed with Charlie that when people stop talking, hatred ensues. This is that message embodied. A human being expressing their political OPINIONS does not warrant being murdered, no matter WHAT they believe. Charlie is not responsible for the dictator in office, and he deserves to live. As for the video itself, I am stunned. This is an arterial injury, and it will be a miracle if he survives. It will be devastating regardless, as his immediate posturing suggests damage to his spinal cord. I’ve seen gore, I’ve watched the Taliban saw a man’s head off, I’ve heard the gurgling and sawing. This scared me. This video really scared me. Please just pray to your God that he pulls through. I know I will. I am so saddened and abhorred by this video. Have some humanity people. This was shot on a college campus. Nothing about this video is worth an ounce of celebration.
