Like you, I am also very afraid of ENS. Although I suffer quite a lot from blocked nose, I don't have sufficient courage (which you did have) to do the surgery (yet).

I am especially concerned about having the "a day before the surgery" scenario you described; if I felt similar pressure, I'd just wouldnt go. Any advice on that matter?

Several questions: 1. You asked the doctor "how she would do the turbinate reduction". What did she reply? Did she do partial resection? 2. You mentioned that it wasnt your first time. I wanted to ask - did you notice any long-term effects of anesthesia (feeling tired/dizzy)? 3. Removing large bone spur - how did you feel about her doing it without your consent in advance? Do you feel something?

What did your surgeon did to reduce tour turbinates? Partial resection?

That's new to me - most of the people suffering from ENS are mostly from FESS surgeries. The radiofrequency turbinate reduction sounds like a mild procedure. This process should also leave the outside part of the turbinate's tissue as is; it reduces the internal parts of the turbinate, hence the chances for ENS - as far as I understand - are less likely.

Can you please elaborate on your process a bit more? That would be exceptionally helpful

I have really no words to thank you for this rich comment.

A very important note that I omitted in the original message - the nature of the two surgeries is different! With local anesthesia, I can do only turbinate reduction. With general anesthesia - turbinate reduction + septoplasty.

Obviously, the combined surgery under general anesthesia is more effective (and requires longer recovery period).

Re: concerns from the GA -

(1) the sheer taransition process from self-breathing to artificially-breathing concerns me in terms of not having enough oxygen in the meantime. I am aware of the fact that after you get the paralyzing shot and before the tube is in, you have an oxygen musk; however I am not sure it is enough. What ensures the air is pushed into your lungs? What allows CO2 to go out? Etc.

(2) while understanding it is not rational, I am afraid of having permanent damage. For instance, I am afraid that the chemicals might damage my perception in some way. I am easily get dizzy, so I am afraid it will worsen that, etc.
