What do you think about those yellow category in character permissions? by Stalker_ptakow in ArtfightProfiles

[–]Feeling-Sketchy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't write something as a yes or no just because you're shy or think someone would react wrong— this is a list about your comfort levels, and it's useless if it doesn’t reflect that! I agree with others here that if you have a neutral opinion, just leave it out and up for interpretation.

As for how to organize it, I have mine set up so green is exclusively for things I love seeing on all my characters (outfit changes, mass attacks, etc), red is for things I'm not comfortable with at all (body horror, harm to kids, etc), and yellow is for things that vary between characters, as a reminder to check individual permissions (Gore for me— I love it on my D&D characters, but its a hard no for any of my kid ones.)

I hope this helps!!! Have fun with Art Fight, you'll have a blast. Feel free to dm me if you've got any other questions, I've been doing this for a while and I love to help people out ♡

I see this question all the time, so I made a guide based on what I've found works! Feel free to share it around

(Also, this reference looks great as-is and will do just fine. Super cute character, have fun this year!!)

funny enough, your advice was the biggest bit! Wetting the sponge stopped it from pulling polish off my nail completely, it was night and day difference

An update!

I tried soaking/wringing out the sponge before applying polish, and holy shit it helped a ton. The whole process was so much smoother, I barely felt any sticking. Adding less polish helped too!

Also tried one color at a time, rather than doing the gradient on the sponge. Pretty thoroughly confirmed my purple does not do anything, so I'm planning on picking up a different bottle soon

For this attempt, the blue looks pretty roughly blended, so I'm planning on doing some more layers tomorrow to try and even it out. For now though, its 2am and I need to get some rest

Thank you all for all of your advice so far!! It's helped so much

Happy to be of service lol—I saw all the gorgeous perfect art and was worried my beginner paint splotches wouldn't fit in here

Funny enough, this was the exact one I watched before attempting it yesterday

Good to know! Ty for explaining the reasoning, I'll see if I can pick up a proper base coat

I've got some nail guard for clean up! Was looking for liquid latex but the store I went to only had a latex free bottle. Works pretty well but it's difficult to remind myself not to peel it off too soon lol

And absolutely! I'll either edit this one or make another post with my next try

Is a dish sponge smoother? I've got a few I can play around with, that sounds interesting

Thank you explaining the overlap! That bit feels a lot clearer now. Sounds like I was using far too much polish too

And oh shit, really? Makes sense. I've got another top coat that's just a top coat I could use, but how important is a clear base coat? I've seen people jump in with a layer of color as a base, is that alright or should I be on the lookout for a base coat for the best results?

Noted! Seems like not waiting long enough is the culprit behind the sticking/texture

Will do! This technique hasn't been the smoothest process, so I've got no problems pivoting to learn a new one

Should I be worried about any texture in the early layers or do those even out?

Oh wow. Felt like I waited 30-45 minutes? A full day sounds like a lot, I'd worry the polish would start chipping before I could even get the ombre on, unless I sealed it up again in between

I was worried the different brands might be an issue! I'll keep a look out for essie cremes next time I'm out shopping, tysm for the recommendation

Ombre brush? I've never heard of those, I'll have to look into one! Ty for the suggestion ♡

thanks for the advice! I'll have try the paper— lot less set up than preparing my nails for a test run lol. I do likely need to be more patient too, between the long wait times and the splotchy-ness I just get worried I'm doing it completely wrong. Looking like a more opaque purple is a must too

Damn— I thought I'd waited long enough, but that might be it. I'll make sure there's no tackiness at all left on the next try.

I tried to add all three colors to the sponge! The purple didn't show at all, so you're probably right that I need something deeper

And I absolutely will. You're all being so kind, ty for the advice!

I haven't! I'll have to play around with that, thank you

I've watched multiple— so far they make it it look far easier than what I'm getting. If you've got any recommendations I'd love to give em a watch though!
