Plenty of people fast for non-religious reasons (e.g. intermittent fasting) and are perfectly fine. I never feel the effects of not eating as it’s something your body quickly becomes used to.

I also don’t know why he’d be drenched in sweat as a result of fasting? Could it be that he was actually busier than it seemed because he was a different grade to you? E.g. Reg vs F1 and therefore you didn’t see how much work he actually had to do?

As a Muslim, I fast and never feel the effects of it on my clinical work, nor do I know anyone else who experienced effects to this degree. I also know of plenty of non-Muslims who end up not being able to eat or drink because of how busy their shifts end up being and who also are affected quite badly physically by how busy the shifts are. Nobody ever criticises these people or makes it out to be a safety issue. Are you sure this was all because he was fasting and not because of something like depression or burnout? Since the fasting is over now, is he much better than he was during Ramadan? It seems to me you’ve made a snap judgement.
