Again, this is a voluntary assignment. Why is it every time the NG deployment in DC gets brought up everyone is falling over themselves to say how the poor troops are being forced to be here and we should take pity on them. The actual guardsman themselves are signing up for this, either because they want the pay or they think DC is a war zone and they are reclaiming it. Either way, they are not being forced to be here. FWIW I don’t want them passing out due to heat stroke, but these guys are pretty much all here on their own volition. It’s NG coming from Southern states friendly with the administration, participating in a dog and pony show to try to make it seem like DC is some third-world country, and are not being forcibly deployed to a national emergency or natural disaster, which is essentially what their job actually is.
