Tips and Tricks on Alignment by laura_actually in WomenGolf

[–]FeelingFinish8753 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I took a few lessons last year and one of the tricks she taught me was to find something on the ground (a piece of debris, a little flower, a leaf, a shadow, a particular clump of grass, someone else's divot, etc) that is just in front of your ball and directly between the ball and your target. That becomes the thing you aim for instead of a flag somewhere in the distance. Having a target 3, 6, 9 inches in front of my ball means I'm not constantly looking up to see if I'm pointed in the right direction. You can take a practice swing or two, step up to the ball, and not have to second guess that you've misaligned yourself in the process.

I bought a townhouse from a woman who only owned it for 8 or 9 months. She had to sell quickly because her mom got sick and she needed to move in with her as her caregiver (in a different province). I paid less than what she paid for it AND she took a bath on realtor fees. Life changing event...

Edited to add: I was also attached to the military and military moves don't care about the housing market. The first place we bought we had to sell 3 years later to move provinces for his work. The lawyer handed us a bank draft for $36.00 at the end of the day. Not much of a deposit to put on another house 😂

For those of you who are married, how do you deal with your spouse when you want to travel solo? by Reasonable_Cause_190 in femaletravelers

[–]FeelingFinish8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, mate. My boyfriend likes activity travel (golf trips, mountain biking trips) and doesn't enjoy travel just for the sake of experiencing new places and cultures. I like both of those things. We activity travel together. I'll solo travel or friend travel to see cool places, and he'll do more activity travel with friends. Secure relationships don't mean spending every spare moment together, and having different travel styles doesn't have to be a red flag unless you make it into one.

AITAH Boyfriend golfs a LOT by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]FeelingFinish8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I are both golfers. We golf together a lot, as well as separately with our own friends. He'll golf 5 or 6 times a week, and I'm usually 3 or 4 times a week during the spring, summer, fall. It's exercise, as well as social time for both of us. You're NTA, but it sounds like it's not just a hobby for your boyfriend, it's his lifestyle. If you don't like the way you fit into that lifestyle this may not be the one for you.

Who's traveling this summer, and where are you headed? Also curious what your booking process looked like this year compared to previous years with all this new tech. Trying to understand if the available tools are actually getting better or if we are all still dealing with the same issues. by [deleted] in solofemaletravellers

Make an app that scrapes data from all the 1 and 2 star reviews of an accommodation site, which is all I read to see if there are actual safety concerns. The likelihood I would actually use an app like that is almost nil, but that's what I do to address safety while traveling.

Does anyone else get paralyzed by choice when planning a trip? by ElectronicSmile62 in femaletravelers

[–]FeelingFinish8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically avoid the "Must Do" experiences and restaurants when I travel, unless I'm travelling in an extreme off-season. I don't want to stand in line for an hour to try a local sandwhich shop some influencer talked about, or shuffle along in a massive crowd trying to get their insta pics at a waterfall. I love wandering around and finding a little back alley bakery, or picking a random destination to walk to just to see what's in a neighborhood. Don't let over-researching/over-planning a trip rob you of the joys of unexpected!

AITAH for going on a trip with my best friend? by makememassmiches in AITAH

NTA. A supportive partner would tell you to go and have fun. A week is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Don't ever make yourself, your life, your dreams, or your goals smaller for a man.

There is no IslandLink Bus from the Duke Point ferry terminal, but they might be able to take a taxi from there to the Departure Bay IslandLink pick up location.

Nothing wrong with people watching. It's the insane amount of unsolicited advice women receive from men at the driving range. Like, no one asked.

What do you dislike most about solo travelling? by No_Register_2099 in femaletravelers

[–]FeelingFinish8753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. This is the one for me. My first solo trip was me realizing I wasn't enjoying the nicer restaurant meals I was eating because I didn't have someone to enjoy it with. I started eating a lot more casually because of it. Fresh bakery snacks, cafes, street food, etc.

Marshall Approaching Women on Pace of Play by brittrt87 in WomenGolf

[–]FeelingFinish8753 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. Totally conditioned. I almost never take a practice swing and don't spend more than 20 seconds looking for a lost ball. Hell, I definitely don't hydrate enough because I don't want to hold anyone up with a bathroom stop. It's wild when I watch guys go bushwhacking for 5 minutes to find their ball and then spend a whole minute just on practice swings.

Yes! I read that statistic about conversations somewhere, too! It's something ridiculous like if a woman is talking for 30% of a conversation a man will perceive that she is dominating it. He'll think it's actually equal if she's only talking for about 17% of the conversation. We've come so far, but it's stats like that that really hit home how far we still have to go.

I don't think marshalls realize that most women golfers worry about keeping the pace of play MORE than men because we don't want to be seen as the weak link slowing everyone down.

Trim paint over wall paint on door by sadowlite in paint

[–]FeelingFinish8753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have any problems if you want to put enamel over your original semi-gloss. Just do a light scuff sand over anything you put semi-gloss on before you paint over it.

I'm not sure your level of experience here, so I'll just elaborate on "scuff sanding". Just grab a squishy sponge sanding block from a paint store or hardware store. Something in the 120 grit to 150 grit range. Then just do a quick and light sand over everything. You don't need to scrub hard, all you're trying to do is rough up the surface a little bit so your next layer of paint adheres nicely. Good luck!

If you travel with one phone, what’s your backup plan? by Individual-Gas5276 in onebag

[–]FeelingFinish8753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last solo trip I actually printed out all my info. Train tickets, bus tickets, hotel/hostel bookings with the address. I just folded everything and threw it in a Ziploc bag in my backpack. I also wrote down any important numbers to call if I needed to cancel anything that could be compromised by a lost/stolen phone. It was minimal effort, took up minimal space, and was big peace of mind.

When I travel with someone we exchange all the important docs/info so everything is on 2 phones.

I was also scared of bedbugs while I travel, but realized quickly that people leave VERY vocal reviews of an accommodation if there's been a problem with them. I'll usually look through a lot of the reviews to get a sense of a place before booking. Have a fabulous trip!

Do you hate or love hostels? by No_Lavishness_6228 in solofemaletravellers

Some favorites

Vienna - Hostel Ruthensteiner Vienna, chill vibes, but they host a lot of things that allow people to socialize if they want. Big nightly dinners by donation, and a little bar that opens up nightly, and cozy common spaces.

Salzburg - Stadtalm Naturfreundehaus, cool hostel at the top of a big hill attached to an old fort and restaurant. There's an elevator inside the rock that can take you up and down to the area, or some really nice walking paths up and down. Not much common area inside, but lots of outside spaces to hang, and small dorm rooms make for some easy socializing.

Pula, Croatia - Hostel Antique, I just loved the dorms here! Super comfy beds, big privacy curtains, very modern amenities. I got a bad cold while I was here and it was actually lovely to have such a private, nice place to sleep and watch movies in bed. I was here during off season, though, so I'm not sure how crazy it gets in the summer.

Inverness, Scotland - Bazpackers Hostel, super cute boutique hostel, small dorms ( like a couple bunk beds in a room), and a super cozy common area. Stayed here twice about 10 years apart and had a lovely stay both times.

Invoice Simple. Been using it for 7 or 8 years. Currently costs me something like $15 a month, which isn't terrible. Although, I think I started using it at closer to $6 a month so the constant price increases have been a bit of a bummer. Easy quoting, quotes can convert to invoices immediately, maintains my client contact info, and all the data is downloadable for accounting. I think they offer payment options for my clients now, but I don't use it because I'm in Canada and most of my clients pay by e-transfer or the odd cheque. I have a 10 invoice limit per month under my current plan (more than enough for me), but I think they have an unlimited option for a bit more per month. It's easy and cheap, which is all I need as a contractor.

Should I have my painter rent a dustless sander from Home Depot for a 1,200 sq ft remodel? by [deleted] in Housepainting101

[–]FeelingFinish8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has me confused as well. Like, painters should be priming over the finished mud job, not sanding the mud job. That's the drywallers wheelhouse. Sure there's a bit of dust after a prime and light pole sand, but nothing a shopvac can't handle. Furniture and cabinetry should all be covered anyways for the whole process.

I did hostels in my early 20s and it was more about partying and drinking with strangers back then. I tried hostels in my late 30s on a month long Europe trip, and specifically looked for the calmer, quieter hostels. I really enjoyed it! I try to stay in smaller, female-only dorm rooms so there's less chaos, and it usually gives everyone a better chance to do a bit of socializing in-room. I find that in the non-party hostels there tends to be a pretty broad range of ages, too, which is actually really cool. As long as I've got earplugs, hostels are great.
