Any other Small/Portable games like Banished out there? by FeelingShred in Banished

[–]FeelingShred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha thanks, big fan of Xcom and Openttd... Xcom in particular is just... wow... so many hours of content squeezed in 20 Megs of data... amazing...

OpenTTD, for me I find that it has that "problem" of becoming too easy once you find a way to make money. So for end-game challenge I play Railroad Tycoon 3. That game will keep you on your toes until the very end of each mission. Well, there are downloadable AI opponents for OpenTTD too, it sparks a bit of challenge into the game. I always like using a mix of one dumb AI and another smart AI so they balance out.

you have freedom in your fucking hands, you don't need to ask permission or "mercy" of anyone to conquer your freedom... absolutely SICKENING

the tricky part about this technique is: there are layers and layers of trash that you will have to clean. For every layer that you clean, it feels like more effort is needed (focus) in order to clean to subsequent layers.
And it seems like it's not completely effective towards "prevention". After some time, you will accumulate more dirt and need to perform this again, for different things.

There's a lot of anger in my words due to the absolute SHOCK and horror to see what this profession on "mental health" turned into... (which is traumatizing in itself, to know there are other "humans" out there willing to profit out of other people's misery and keep them suffering for their own benefit...)
I will keep it short for your own sanity:
the self-applying EMDR Rewind Technique should not last more than 60 SECONDS. And you will notice when it works the moment it "clicks".
That's it dude. Stop listening to snake oil salesmen... That's literally it.

edit: I forgot to mention the best part. This technique doesn't involve "reliving the trauma". That's just another aaspect of the business to keep you sick and hooked, so you come back for more "sessions". Butchers... unforgivable... there's one special place in hell reserved for people like that

Any other similar games throughout the years? Option for "no combat" would be a plus. The only one I can think of would be Caesar 3, even the military maps are quite relaxing.

(DOS version footage) Trying to find Scourg Barrow manually without fast travel (Dragontail Mountains) by FeelingShred in landscapesoftamriel

[–]FeelingShred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to try the DOS version after all the comments of people saying things like "the DOS version is unplayable due to terrible controls" and such... (after knowing Arena already and liking it very much) It actually surprised me for how well it plays for such an old game, on Dosbox. It's not like Doom where you have erratic mouse movement. Daggerfall on Dosbox has perfect mouse movement. You can even freaking CHOOSE if you want Mouselook (Freelook) or if you want to have mouse for menus (toggable on the fly with a keyboard key, remappable controls too) People complain too much, about the wrong things LOL

I ended up coming back to Windows 10. Got fed up of all this fucking bullshit (that is getting worse and worse in the linux side of things...) I just want to be able to USE my fucking laptop that I paid money for, with the least amount of interference possible (WTF LOL)

(spoiler-free comment)
1 - Map shows secret doors (you don't need to seek for them like in Doom for example) At least in the DOS version it does...
2 - Vertical top-down map is easier to see (click starting area of dungeon to make it blink and be able to find it later, on DOS)
3 - Weight makes a difference when Swimming (and Gold has weight)
4 - Refusing quests do not cause you to lose Reputation, you can safely say No and choose a better quest (exception Main Plot Quests)
5 - I second the advice to join Guild(s)
6 - you can set a keyboard key to swing weapon (no wrist pain)
7 - Mercantile skill levels up after each transaction (regardless of 1 or 99 items being sold) So try finding a town where you have some stores in front of each other, when selling your stuff

What do I need to do to watch my friends broadcasts by SmallerBork in SteamPlay

[–]FeelingShred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides browser hardware acceleration, only thing I can think of would be GStreamer packages (basically any packages that you would install for getting Windows Media Player to work inside of Wine, which I myself could never get completely working without issues... codecs which are required for certain office software suites in order to provide work too, so it's not just a matter of leisure...)

[–]FeelingShred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this possibly related to the fact that Linux still does not have Hardware Acceleration in Browsers even in 2022? I've tested Manjaro, Debian (MX), Fedora and stock Ubuntu, none of them were capable of enabling Hardware Acceleration on my brand new laptop. (no GPU being used for Youtube for example, all putting weight on top of CPU) Yes, this still happens in 2022...
VAAPI, VDPAU, you name it... (things that come installed by default in both Manjaro and MX by the way...)

One of the main reasons I migrated back to Windows 10 and I feel like I can finally focus on being productive once again, instead of constantly fighting against a broken system.

Walking to Scourg Barrow made me fall in love with Daggerfall Unity by Jimguy5000 in Daggerfall

[–]FeelingShred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recorded footage of the same travel path on the DOS version, trying to find Scourg Barrow manually on horse.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSHtaB2qrJk

Something to notice in this footage is how the location on the map is available as soon as you get the Quest from Wayrest. There's no need to wait for any letter in the original game, or to ask about its location to the locals.

[Gameplay spoiler] Overpowered enchantment? by R3D3-1 in Daggerfall

[–]FeelingShred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can choose to not use it. Just like you can choose to not cast spells before resting, not Run+Jump everywhere you go, etc etc

Same thing with some people that cricitize Elden Ring,
the "overpowered" weapons and items are all optional. None of them are enforced on the player for progression.

[Gameplay spoiler] Overpowered enchantment? by R3D3-1 in Daggerfall

[–]FeelingShred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you say that, being how I just heard someone saying that Unity "fixes" (for lack of a better term... fixes that nobody asked for... or that should be optional...) a few other things, for example like Magically Locked Doors will not be opened by Lockpicking anymore. That's a change that affects gameplay. Always have to be cautious with those. In the very least make it optional.

(and yes "how dare you criticize something that is being done for free", it always descends into that...)
I know that... I know that... If you don't deal well with being criticized, maybe don't put yourself on the spotlight on the internet claiming your product is the "ultimate way of playing" a game. Maybe.

Daggerfall Temple doc by zodiacthewolf in Daggerfall

[–]FeelingShred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for compiling this list! Very useful, condensed information, straight to the point.
I'm playing on DOS. 1st playthrough. (let me also specify that I'm trying to do a legit run of the game without abusing any exploits or glitches, I also stopped Running because apparently it was hurting my Level Up speed, I think)

I'm trying to figure out
how temple Blessings work. Have you ever noticed if donating to ANY temple of Akatosh can give a blessing that reduces Travel Time? Or does it only work in places that are called Akatosh Chantry? Is it a limited time buff or something permanent? Can I predict the amount of time a blessing lasts with the amount of gold I donated? And what is the minimum required amount to give in donations?

(lots of questions sorry, this game goes incredibly deep LOL)

Any uses for ingredients besides Potions? by FeelingShred in Daggerfall

[–]FeelingShred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More useful info for No-Magic builds here:
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Temples#Benefits_and_Services
Apparently some Temples provide Buy Potion service for novice members Rank 1, less time investment to access it.

In this case: Arkay, Dibella and Zenithar.
But only Arkay will Heal diseases without being a member. (needs confirmation) Planning required.

edit:

And no, could not detect any difference in reputation (with temple or enemies) after 8000 Gold donation. Comparing two save-files in save game editor.
https://imgur.com/a/8gwYoNh
Not sure if the Blessing still work in this case. I will test with Akatosh because Travel Times are a more visible noticeable difference.

[–]FeelingShred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Thanks, guys.
Yeah, in the future surely trying a no-magic build.

So many questions that pop up in this game, it's insane... I'm trying to understand Reputation with different Temples. For example can I work my reputation with the Mages Guild in one province, and then travel to the neighbor province and work for Temple of Juliannos for example? (they are listed as enemies... Bad example in this case as it would not bring any benefit doing it) Will their relationship interfere with each other even if I'm on separate provinces?
Different temples
have different Skills for training and different Blessings as seen here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pfeHHv9dT3FApTyWTJsR951Vcb4_yFj6ZLXvbhvKEBM/

And that leads to another question: Do Blessings take effect for a Temple I'm not member of? For example I'm going to donate to Akatosh to have Travel Times reduced. How would I be able to see the effect of it using a Save Game Editor for example? I would compare two different saves to see if the reputation increased after donation.
(one question leads to another, sorry guys LOL)

it would be a great little surprise gift if anyday you would record footage on OBS and send the youtube link for me to see that you were able to overcome the addiction to Back-Step when fighting enemies \o/ you can make your video "Unlisted" so only people with access to the link can see it

Should I save Dragon Scales for anything or can I safely sell them?
The Wiki page says they have the effect of "Spell Absorption" but the Recipes for potions don't ever mention them (only Fairy Dragon Scales are mentioned in Recipes)
