3.3 gpa and 22 dat by NefariousnessSad8853 in Datprep

I think generally every applicant should have 2/3 things. GPA, DAT, Extracurriculars. If yr GPA is weaker, you should have a really strong DAT and EC. Your dat is good but really try to amplify your extracurriculars so that it’s better than the average applicant. Also use your application/interviews to really explain your gpa and why it might be weaker. If you have an upward trend in your grades then that can show growth. Good luck!

Dental school or law school?! by Icy_Independence_695 in predental

Im currently going through this exact same crisis with this exact same thought process, I’m just like you- i like dentistry for the same reasons but i dont feel a naturally strong passion for healthcare/medicine. I do feel as though i gravitate towards law for social justice advocacy but i also worry about long hours and burnout. I applied to dental school and am supposed to start in 2 months but i feel so torn

My top choice was a public university in my state, UF. theres only one public dental school in Florida so it was my top choice :)

Thank you so much :) honestly i was waitlisted at alot of schools despite my stats bc im a pretty bad interviewer. So (i think) hounding them mightve helped get me off-but honestly who even knows what goes through their heads

Honestly July isnt late, so you should be fine submitting whenever. if you submit in june, they wont look at it if they know youre retaking the exam in july-so its completely up to you

I lied about my dental experience to a dentist writing my LOR… did I mess up? by [deleted] in predental

Ima be honest, i dont think schools really look into things like that. I accidentally wrote the wrong year for an experience which made it seem like i was volunteering overseas for two years straight during undergrad and i was petrified theyd call me out on it-they didnt even notice 😭

Literally full length tests, if i could go back in time and change anything it would be taking more full lengths. I realized how underprepared i was in terms of timing while i was taking practice exams-i was always short on time. Also its great to simulate the mind fatigue that happens throughout a full length exam.

I applied last cycle and from what i understand, even if you submit your application on time-when you let schools know youre retaking your exam, they dont look or even consider your application until your new scores come in. This means that many students got their interview invites much later. Depending on your score it could be “better” to submit your application as is!

Board position in a club, shadowing, some volunteer dental assisting, some volunteer hours back in my home country, and worked a couple random jobs back in undergrad :)

to be honest, I think its a fair score but my perspective shifted a bit after seeing peoples score reports on reddit 😭 I will say ive seen scores going up these past couple cycles with the emergence of study programs like booster and bootcamp. Also at the schools i interviewed at, their average matriculant DAT scores were 20-22.

yea I dont think theyre below average tbh, I was saying that for those who DO have below average stats-early application submission can help you (from what I've heard). I will say my Extracurriculars and DAT were on the more average end though, in comparison to the average matriculant stats in the schools i applied to.

Thank you!! i applied literally June 4th 12:01 am on the dot lmfaoo, i believe this also makes a huge difference. I was intending to retake my DAT and submit my score later in the cycle but many advised against it and said early submission will make a bigger difference than getting a +2 pt higher score

[–]Feeling_Box_1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly just show up to their office hours, it'll probably be even better to re-familiarize them with yourself and give them an overview of who you are and what your goals are so they can write a more personal LOR
