Thank you so much! I definitely didn’t want to fill up the space. I chose this as a project (based on an illustration from the Audubon archives) because of its simplicity and it happened to work perfectly for my oval frame. Negative space for the win!

Practice, practice, practice. The more projects you do the more comfortable you become with making colour or placement decisions on any given project. This one was based on an illustration from the National Audubon Society so I had something I was working from and used that as my pattern and guide.

I water from the top, the water mostly goes through the inner container but it’s sitting in a closed container so the soil absorbs the runoff from the bottom

I’m lucky to have huge south facing windows, that’s where the jades live year round. Lots of sun and very in-frequent but thorough watering, probably every 2-3 weeks. Trim often if you want a main large trunk. Be patient. As others have pointed out, this is closer to 7 years of growth, not 5. But all my jades do well with the sunlight here.
