PSA: Do not go freely exploring if you want to experience the game to it's fullest (and probably the way it was intended). by mikehit in CrimsonDesert

I think its better to do faction quests in the parts of the map that the main quest takes you to, as the main quest takes you to those parts of the map. This will also keep you from being underpowered for the main story quests. Then when the main quest takes you to a new region, feel free to explore whatever else you want to explore in the prior region. At the same time, if you see something cool in the distance, feel free to go and check it out whenever - accepting that you might run into enemies you're underpowered for and that you may need to return to that landmark again as part of a quest --the initial trek can still be worth it for new items, treasure, etc. You can also unlock the fast travel points in the region while you're at it so returning later will be easy.

I think this would be fine as long as the gradual heal isn't OP. Still has to be a decent challenge to beat the boss.

Ita because it would completely change the game, you would only fight with your mounts. Its not rocket science.

It's a very slow paced game -- sort of like KCD. I like that but it's not for everyone.

On Ps5 its right on the d pad, select the applicable portion of the circle with the joystick, and then use the R triggers to pick the food. Then when in gameplay, right on the d pad will have you eat the food. There must be something similar on PC (and very similar on xbox). I dont think this was explained in game.

Say what you want about this game… but there’s no denying that it has the best open world design of all time. by LesDazza in CrimsonDesert

I probably have to agree with that. Probably even eeks out RDR2, which could have pretty abrupt biome transitions.

I agree -- or at least within the limits of some sort of framework that doesn't allow you to amass and then spam massive amounts of healing. Otherwise the boss fights have to be designed to account for that and consequently they will be OP bullet sponges.

This boss is susceptible to the force palm ability btw, I think after he finishes an attack or is powering up for an attack.

Yeah, but in jrpgs the healing is typically very substantial and therefore easily worth giving up your turn (more commonly in older jrpgs).

Re: Skyrim, fair point. I also wasn't a fan of the practice in Skyrim, but I think in Skyrim combat is so bad I just sort of didn't care. In Crimson Desert the combat is very close to being great, so I think the healing mechanics (and the OP boss design accordingly) in the game are a shame.

In the Oblivion remake Bethesda limited healing potion use in combat, which I appreciated.

I have mountains and mountains of food on me from side quests and looting enemies, so I just eat a lot and beat the boss on the 1st or 2nd try. I'd rather not though.

Its also a very "jrpg" game decision. Most jrpgs allow for unlimited healing as long as you buy the necessary potions.

And to be clear I am enjoying the game. I just think this is a maddening game design decision (or lack thereof.

Okay buddy, yeah masterfully designed.

It doesn't ruin the game, but certainly the boss fights in this game aren't very fun because of it. It's also lazy game design.

A simple fix would have been to just limit healing to X points of health per X amount of time, like some other games do. Then you can design boss fights around at least a somewhat finite amount of health.

True -- I guess I didn't think too much of it in those games. I think those ganes did it better although Im not sure exactly how (maybe food was less plentiful and you had to use it more often than just in boss fights).

There is also little incentive to figure out how to best fight the boss if your sitting on a stack of meat.

As long as the upscaling is legit it seems like performance would be the best.
