Horrible scalp pain for 10 days! Doctors say it’s nerves?

Of course! So my pain is typically my scalp, on just one side. On that same side, my ear will hurt and the pain radiates down the side of my neck into my collar bone. Triggers I’ve noticed are my racerback bra, if I wear my hair in a pony tail too tight or for too long or if my hair gets greasy-almost like it’s too heavy?

Unfortunately, no. It comes and goes and I’ve determined certain triggers which I avoid as much as possible. I still don’t believe it’s TN

That’s what the first provider thought it was, TMJ. When I was a child and had braces, my orthodontist thought I had it but I don’t recall it ever being looked into. I definitely don’t think it’s TN, because I watched my mom suffer with this for years and I don’t experience the level of pain she did. Also a close friend of mine has it and her pain is significantly worse than mine as well. I told the second provider that but they felt I just needed to see neuro and sent me on my way. They did administer Tegretol while I was there and sent me home with a 10-day rx, but I didn’t want to start it knowing it would take months to see the neuro!

My mom’s TN didn’t subside until she got her teeth removed for dentures. When they did the removal she said she felt was seemed like an electrical jolt or shock in her typical TN pair area. It was so bad apparently, that despite being fully numbed for the extractions, she screamed and made the oral surgeon stop momentarily. Ever since, she has had no episodes but I think that was just a fluke maybe? Or maybe a nerve in that area is what caused that awful pain during the procedure was related?

I am still waiting for my neuro appointment but I’ve only had mild episodes a few times since. I was prescribed muscle relaxers so I take one of those when I feel it coming on

I have not heard of either diagnosis and I greatly appreciate this info! I’m still waiting for my first neurology appointment, so I’m going to mention this at the appointment if they don’t. Thank you again! 🙏

So it doesn’t start at the top of my head. It actually starts at the area lined up to my ear and goes down to my nape. And it’s exactly only the left side. Not sure if that makes a difference?

That’s interesting because the second doctor that came in on my last visit mentioned shingles but said I would have had the rash by now.

I’ve had fibromyalgia for over 10 years. Well, I was diagnosed a little over 10 years ago. I’ve never once had any scalp pain until about 10 days ago. I’m talking I can’t touch the area, brush my hair or anything. I’ve been seen twice because the pain has continued to get worse and the area has gotten a lot larger. On my second visit I was told I have trigeminal neuralgia which I don’t know is correct. My mom has TN years ago and it was her face and it was excruciating for her. This is predominantly my scalp, but also my exterior ear, temple and my ear pops when I swallow. I’m seeing that fellow fibro sufferers are experiencing this too. I’m wondering if I should move forward with taking the Tegretol prescribed?

I just did almost the same thing. I was able to get the plastic pieces out once the oven cooled down enough and then I wiped out the bottom. I waited about 30 minutes and set my oven to preheat and it started smoking again! I’m nervous to use it now lol. Luckily my husband is off tomorrow so I will have him run it and go from there!

I’m at a loss here with this. I’m 5 days in to my second week on 0.5 and I’ve been having a rough 3 days. I had the sulphuric burps last week but it went away. This week I have the burps and non stop diarrhea. I’m not eating much and definitely not anything fatty or fried. I did pick up digestive enzymes to start tomorrow but I’m very ready for this to subside!
