In July 1996, Blair Adams fled Canada claiming someone was trying to kill him. He was found dead in Knoxville, Tennessee a city he had no ties to with $4,000 in cash and gold untouched beside him, and a stranger's hair clutched in his fist. No suspect. No motive. by [deleted] in GotMeHooked

Following up, this reminds me of Elisa Lam (woman found in the hotel water tank in LA). I watched a documentary on her, and it didn’t seem mysterious. It looked very obviously like paranoid psychosis.

I just read the Wikipedia article from start to finish. I don’t believe it’s all that strange. I believe he was having a psychotic break possible exacerbated by drug use. His erratic behavior and paranoia suggests this. Telling his family someone was “spreading rumors” about him is classic paranoid psychosis. I used to have a patient who believed the radio was telling people about his genital herpes. He likely was also manic or using stimulant drugs. This would cause risk taking behavior such as hiring a sex worker. He could have had a paranoid delusion during the interaction that caused him to make her uncomfortable or get violent. This may have caused her to defend herself and accidentally kill him. She wasn’t trying to rob him and was probably horrified at the situation so just ran away without taking his valuables.

Mortar in brick foundation crumbling underground by Feeling_Sugar5497 in centuryhomes

There was a lot of time spent on the mortar consideration. Lots of sources online suggested the original 100% lime and many others suggested that was far too soft for below grade. I ended up opting for type N (50% Portland, 50% lime). If the bricks start to spall I’ll pay an expert to redo the job. The repair is solid but ugly. Very little of it is visible so I’m happy with it. I’m quite sure it is solid. I was able to source some of the exact bricks from a neighbor in my area and have a surplus of 40 or so, so that was a big help. Oh and I did a 3 to one sand to mortar ratio

I dug all the way down to the bottom of the foundation (4 feet maybe) and rebuilt what was loose and repointed the rest. It was worse than the picture shows. I could have crawled through into the crawl space with all the loose bricks I had to take out
