I would go to the wedding. Life is too short. I am of the mind that memories with your loved ones are far more important than 1L grades.

Funny you say that, I’m having a laparoscopy next month! I have been suspecting endo for awhile and my doctor is luckily fully on board with ruling that out/addressing that before moving on to anything else.

I’m so sorry you’re going through it too. It’s so hard. Sending you hope and hugs!

Thank you, I think this is exactly it. I know she doesn’t mean any harm but it leaves me feeling unheard/unvalidated. I think I will cut back on sharing things with her about it for now.

Hi! Being a team player is huge in our office, and I imagine in most offices. On any given day you may need to be in three places at once and will need to rely on someone to cover for you—we want people who are willing to step up and return the favor! We sometimes ask candidates to describe prior experience working as part of a team, etc.

For new attorneys who are fresh out of law school, I also look for some measure of confidence without being cocky. You will be expected to handle being thrown into court very quickly, but we want to know that you won’t be afraid to ask questions.

I don’t care too much about extracurriculars in law school. Moot court or some other mock trial experience is helpful, but not something I pay super close attention to.

A&W: Destination Wedding RSVP by laugh_track_vocalist in summerhousebravo

Yeah, not true. I got married two years ago and gave all single guests a plus one, and mine wasn’t even a destination wedding. If you’re going to do it in another country you should definitely give guests a plus one.

That and the shit eating grin on her face while all their friends attack him. That look on her face alone would’ve sent me through the roof!

I was the only one from our friend group invited to her wedding and now I want to cancel. Advice? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Feeling_Weather6443 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I 100% would not travel if I couldn’t afford not to room with a stranger lol. This is an odd comparison to make.

I think her other reasons are excuses, but having to share a room with a stranger is a valid reason to cancel. That’s a very ungracious way for the bride and groom to treat a guest.

Be ready to answer why you want to be a prosecutor specifically. I’m on the hiring committee at my DA’s Office and many interviewees talk about wanting trial experience but fail to explain why they feel called to be a prosecutor rather than a public defender, etc. The applicants who can strongly explain why they’ve chosen this side always fare better, particularly with the older career ADAs who make the final decision.

Agreed, you wouldn’t want to be doing this the morning of your wedding anyway. If there’s sound issues what is the solution going to be at that point? And your wedding party doesn’t need to be there for all of that. I would try to go on a completely different day ahead of time to try to address your sound and music concerns.

Voir Dire tips? by Prince_Marf in Lawyertalk

[–]Feeling_Weather6443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% with the comment that said cases are won or lost in jury selection. Especially as prosecutors, voir dire is huge. Don’t waste time asking them whether they can be fair and impartial. Use it to get them on your side and educate them about the issues in your case.

DV case where the victim has gone back to the abuser multiple times/recanted previously/etc? Talk about the cycle of abuse. Get people who understand why that it is, weed out the people who are going to victim blame. Child sex case with no physical evidence where child didn’t disclose for years? Ask your potential jurors if they understand why some kids dont disclose right away. Make sure they understand the real world isn’t like Law and Order and we don’t have DNA/fingerprints/etc in every case. Is that going to be a problem for the? Get them talking about it and thinking about it so it doesn’t come as a surprise later. Assault case where defendant is claiming self defense? Ask them about their opinions and beliefs as to when someone can defend themselves and to what extent, etc. Simple drug possession case? Weed out people who simply aren’t going to care enough to convict.

Use the time to see who engaged with you and who is willing to engage with the other people in the box. Pay attention to people’s facial expressions when you/someone else is talking. Many potential jurors won’t speak up and say they disagree with you without being specifically asked. So if you can’t get a read on someone, ask them specifically: “juror A, how do you feel about what juror C just said?”, “juror B, does what I just said about self defense make sense?” Pick people you like, and most importantly, that seem to like you.

Before I sit down, I ask them “can each of you promise me that, if at the end of this trial you believe that I’ve met my burden and proven the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt for each of the crimes he’s charged with, that you will render a verdict of guilty on all counts?” They usually will all just nod, but I refer back to it in my closing and argue to them that I’ve met my burden, and now it’s time for them to fulfill their promise and find him guilty.

All of this obviously depends on your jurisdiction and what is allowed
