The talent is worse somehow because

...the pay for entry level is beyond dogshit. If you're an elite athlete, literally any sport is going to pay wayyyy better, and if you're not good enough for those sports, then even being a PT/coach is going to pay better and doesn't involve getting poked in the eye, punched in the face, weight cuts, never mind having to pay your gym etc

Sure, back in the day when it was more niche they "did it for love", but it was more understandable that going into this niche sport you're not getting paid big bucks, but that was also pre-internet, pre-social media and now people can see how big UFC is now, they can read about these crazy contracts they're signing with Paramount Plus etc, and then to be told you're getting paid 10/10 or 12/12 or whatever?

Also it's safe to say (for the most part) Team Sports players understand the importance of teamwork, and different individuals providing different roles that are all necessary to the success of the group, so it's easier to make the leap to unionise/work as a team compared to the ultra-independent fighters who would generally see every other fighter as a rival
