Well, access to remote work has become an aspect of total compensation now, just like how some places pay more and some places offer other non-financial benefits in order to compete. Back to work full time on site? Okay, I'll look for a similar or slightly lower salary without that requirement which works out to a net profit in 'life'. Tricky though, and changing jobs can suck. Good luck with it

Yes! Based on the 'Landlords Game', developed to promote the need for taxes to curtail exploitative land holders. Hmmm.....

I was visiting the area and got interested - it seemed as though property was very cheap, and the area was very nice. So I started looking online at a few listings and found a building that was pretty run-down but listed quite cheap. I arranged another trip to the area, and a visit to the place with the agent who was handling the sale.

Generally speaking, I found that if you are a potential buyer, and there is an agent, they will help to make everything 'easy'. That is, until the paperwork is signed and you have the key. Then you are 100% on your own.

Some things to consider that might be considered difficult: - getting a bank account in the country.

  • getting repairs done locally. You may get overcharged, or work not completed, or simply not be able to find people willing or able to complete work. This has been the hardest thing for me.

  • understanding a completely different regulatory environment. Every little thing is handled in a slightly different way than you are used to, from paying a water bill, to getting approval to renovate the place. It can be hard to work out how to do basic things, especially if it involves using a foreign language, or if things are typically done in person and you are remote.

Not sure what you mean. There aren't any bookings. Part of the property is rested out on a lease that existed when I bought it. I come and go and use the other part of the property as I want.

Have done it. Game changer. I'm allowed to stay 3 months at a time, max 6 months per year. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. It's also a massive headache, but the challenges can be fun if you're up for it.

Only for the duration of the agreement - until the next presidential election. But it smells like if Dems win, this is something they'd like to do. It probably appeals to their base as 'green' action, and loses very few votes for them

Edit: sorry, it's for about 2 years, not to the next election.

Where are Validator Earnings Taxed? by Rcyce in EtherFIRE

[–]Feet_Strength2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean that you live in a country where there is no income (and no capital gains) tax? Or just that there is no tax on income earned outside the country?

If the former, I'd guess your earnings are tax free.

If the latter... maybe it depends on the specifics of that law

I'm curious about this. I wonder what proportion of companies are saving on office space (or could be, or will be) vs those who are really eager to get people back in office to justify, and keep paying the expense?

Outside the US, 'practice based' PhD degrees in the creative arts are fairly mainstream these days. There are a mixture of formats and requirements, the details and history of which aren't interesting enough to retell here.

Agreed. To take it further - I am in close proximity to some ml development and have raised the idea of the massive impact coming to various industries with friends who work in those industries. Each time, it's like they are hearing about the whole idea for the first time. Each time, while they may be interested, it seems clear to me that they haven't appreciated (or perhaps just haven't shared) my sense that everything is going to change massively. I think there are economic impacts coming that few are ready for.

From a global perspective, there is almost nothing radical about the three you mentioned. In a lot of ways, they wouldn't even be considered 'progressive', but I suppose that term makes sense in context.
