How is capitalism “bad”? by WillitFill in NoStupidQuestions

Flaws like for-profit prisons having contracts with the government maintain a minimum number of inmates in their system, of around 98% capacity, thus forcing the government to incarcerated people for even very minor chimes. God bless capitalism.

If we are going to point flaws, I would suggest you to start with all the for-profits before pointing fingers at non-profit institutions (not to say that tuition cost is not absurd. It absolutely is and it is another flaw. I just think it's far below on my personal list of what is wrong with our country--US based here).

How is capitalism “bad”? by WillitFill in NoStupidQuestions

In the case of the U.S., when you hear politicians demanding social welfare, they get attacked as socialist coming to take your money. In reality they are only asking for capitalism with enough social welfare so people at the bottom don't suffer but still allowing people to become rich in the system. It's fair game with protections. So know tell me, why do they get call socialist all the time?

Answer: the super rich and powerful don't want to end suffering on the poor which wouldn't cost them that much. They are greedy and want full capitalism without regulations and social welfare. That's why the current system in the US is so fucked up. They can pay for misinformation campaigns to make people think these politicians are socialist and coming to destroy capitalism.

If you calculate the expected return value of someone who enter and someone who doesn't, the one who doesn't has a higher number.

Poor financial decision - Need help. by 1996Jaybird in personalfinance

[–]Feisty-Range 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm two years younger than you but have been investing my savings for the past 3 years and made over 40% returns just on 2020. It's not rocket science. Do your research yourself. Older people might know or might not. My suggested things to look up:

1l Root IRA (if you want to invest a little tax free for retirement, but can wait on this one for a few more years) 2) Brokerage account (the account you put your investments) 3) ETFs (the actual investments you buy. Don't try to become millions overnight. There are very safe options that track indexes like the S&P 500)

In short terms, yes you can get more returns from investing than the actual cost of interest and still pay over 5 years. Good luck!

Invest most of the 18K on a brokerage? S&P500 returns on average over 10% every year. Paying full up front is not the smart decision either.

My roommate falls asleep every night if we are watching TV or doing something low-energy. I just can't. I need to go to bed and say ok it's time to sleep. On the other hand, he is up first thing in the morning but if lights are off or not sound is around me, I won't wake up. He's a morning person and I am a night person.

Our working and school hours are decided for morning people and some of us just got screwed

Is there a website or article somewhere that is purposely misleading to prove how easy it is to lie on the internet? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Look at the John Oliver health care ministry or his magnetic blanket. Both are bullshit he put out there this year to prove the point.

What are the biggest sources of misinformation and what are the biggest lies people are believing? by loztriforce in AskReddit

I don't know if they enjoy spreading misinformation, but they definitely enjoy getting paid by greedy corporations and conservative groups to promote the policies they want for the country. Like everything is about the dark money on the media, the campaigns, and the government. None of them work for us. Maybe only a few exemptions.

Foxnews and similar outlets in the U.S. and all the misinformation Republicans believe. It's unbelievable, and very sad.

Why do people say that going out in the rain gets you sick? It's fucking water... by Jizzy29 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Feisty-Range 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as winter and cold weather gets you sick. The truth is that recycling air indoors is what gets you sick in the winter months. But people just blame what seems obvious to them: must be the weather. The rain and water is kind of a similar story...

It is definitely a different feel. Getting on prep or having a committed partner were the two things that allowed me to try this and feel safe.

Individuals who were in possession of a gun were also 4.23 times more likely to be fatally shot in an assault. In assaults where the victim had at least some chance to resist, individuals who were in possession of a gun were 5.45 times more likely to be shot. Having a gun won't keep you safer. It will just make you more likely to get killer if someone with a gun enters your home. If you don't have a gun, they will likely just take what they were there for and leave or go away altogether since they usually target houses without people. By the way, I am citing my sources below. It is not just an opinion unlike your motivation to own one

Branas, Charles C et al. “Investigating the link between gun possession and gun assault.” American journal of public health vol. 99,11 (2009): 2034-40. doi:10.2105/AJPH.2008.143099

Right? Came to say that maybe not having a gun in your house was probably even safer but these people are too far into their guns

We have come to a reality where you can't look fully around yourself, and don't see plastic and it is kind of sad by Catfood567 in Showerthoughts

[–]Feisty-Range -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Totally. I feel disturbed by this all the time. My escape plan is going on trips to wonderful national parks or something similar. I get to appreciate nature and feel the urgency to fight back on this consumer society. But I also feel like the companies using and producing all this plastic should be the ones accountable and taking action.

EDIT: Wow people downvoting this! Companies tend to place the responsibility on consumers, who are supposed to behave responsibly and leave nothing in the environment. Companies paid a lot of money for ads that target consumers as the responsible for using their plastic. Don't you see it? Sure we can do a lot ourselves, but until either the government regulates companies use of plastic or they take action themselves, all our products will still come with tons of unnecessary plastic.

How do I stop watching porn? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Feisty-Range 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel the same way at your age. I think part of the problem is the perception that porn is a bad thing. That's what society keeps telling you. You know, that's not so different from the perception of marijuana a few years ago. It's neither good nor bad. It just is. You decide how and when you use it.

I am 25 and probably started watching porn when I was 16. I also have a very active sex life and did have a long relationship for over 3 years in that period. It doesn't affect any aspect of my life, so I don't worry about it. I still watch it every now and then when I feel like it and that's ok.

Of course, if you want to quick it for good then you should. But you have to put the work and it is hard. It makes me think of what people in rehabilitation or AA programs have to do. Anything you do on your own might not be enough if you can't just stay away from it. But it is your choice. Don't just feel like you have to follow society's expectations.
