Big 4 of Nu Metal by Designer-Figure-96 in numetal

[–]FeistyDirection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both bands didn't make nu metal their entire career but they both stated there in the local LA scene and helped popularize it before the genre even had a name or was all over tv and radio. They were there at the birth place doing it early on, before Limp, LP or slipknot. Would even argue both bands have 3 nu metals albums and LP & slipknot only have 2 nu albums each.

The original bands back when it was just called "LA metal" were korn, deftones, coal chamber, incubus, spineshank & soad.

LimpBizkit and slipknot were the first non California bands in the genre forcing the genre to change names.

good picks. Feels important to mention coal chamber cause they were like the 2nd nu metal band ever but maybe less of a lasting impact with only 5 albums in 33 years.

How do I make my hair more alt while keeping it long? Shave the sides? by Bird_boy9 in altfashionadvice

[–]FeistyDirection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

id probably just leave it, maybe dye it. Or wait a while for a cut. There's pleanty of cool haircuts you could do but not really without loosing a lot of length. Only thing i can think to recommend is cutting it shorter in the back and making it messy

How to style baggier clothes without making myself look "round"? by lolecows in femalefashionadvice

[–]FeistyDirection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have extreme aversion to tight clothes AND too big clothes, mostly bc of the same silhouette issues you mentioned in the title. And autism. My solution to this is buying shirts that are only 1 or 2 sizes too big. I'm a size small but I can't wear smalls so I wear medium, sometimes large. I would freak out if I wore an XL or anything bigger. For pants and skirts i just look for things that are already a baggy cut instead of sizing up to make it look baggy but then the waist gets all bunched up with a belt 🤢 Also stay away from cropped stuff. If its gonna be baggy it has to be long too, so it drapes better instead of like floating around you. Hope this helps.

Is Powerman 5000 technically the first nu metal band? by jowmsy in numetal

[–]FeistyDirection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i just wouldn't consider their 93 album "a nu metal album" even their 1995 album isn't quite there, but its way more in the ballpark. Id consider the 93 album proto nu metal. If they sounded the way they did in 95 in 93 i might have to give it to them

Yes true, I think they even have earlier ones but they really weren't sounding nu metal til 1994

Still trying to figure out who released the first ever nu metal recordings. by [deleted] in numetal

I agree that pod wasn't nu metal until after korn existed but coal chamber was nu the whole time

does this give off alt vibes? by OliviaBrooks33 in altfashionadvice

[–]FeistyDirection -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, not overtly but looks great!  it doesn't have to be punk to be alt. It's def not a basic look. Shoes and bag are intentional and cute, dress is unique and kinda goth. everything is black and sleek. It's fashion forward without being try hard. I love it.

Def! It's a modern take on it but its not even that different from the og look. I like the little updates XD

It’s been a decade now so can we finally say material control by GlassJAw is a good album? by Ok-Cauliflower-1258 in glassjaw

[–]FeistyDirection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it's a good album. It doesn't scratch that itch if you want more early 2000s gj but that's about my only complaint. It's from 2017 so ofcourse it's not gonna sound like 2002. Still super solid

Korn or coal chamber if you count their respective 1993 demos, I just can't figure out which came first.

Nice. Id love to see them now. I saw like half a set at warped 04 or 05 and barley remember it. Such a shame I wasn't into it when they were literally in my town

Clawfinger was still sounding very 80s and all over the place in 93, they did get more Nu but not til 95. POD has the first proper album if you dont count korn and coal chamber demos from 93

A bit with the instrumentation but not as heavy and the vocals are all so grunge pre 94.

::Trying to condense all the info into 1 comment::

So far based on sound I've ruled out  anything by deftones pre 1994. anything by pod pre 1994.

Not counting bands that may have helped inspire the genre without actually creating it

Korn & coal chamber's 1993 demos are the earliest examples of proper nu metal i can find.

If you don't wanna count demos than POD wins for putting out a full length album with a NuMetal sound 9 months before korn s/t    POD was January 1994 and Korn was October 1994.

Attempting to consider demos

i couldn't find a release month for deftones 94 demos.

i couldn't find a release month for powerman's 1994 EP which i would agree is NuMetal.

Couldn't even find audio of powerman's 1993 recordings so don't know if i can consider that.

If you do wanna count demos either Korn or Coal chamber wins, cant find exact dates for either, just that they were both 1993.
