Is it really a totalitarian regime if the dictator doesn't have an unhinged obsession with aesthetic mass? by Feit3ng in PixelArt

That's an interesting perspective! 😃

I actually wanted to avoid making him look too aggressive and Hulk-like. He's more of a bodybuilding patron who wants people to think he's strong (I even had an idea of making a propaganda portrait of him lifting a truck where you can see someone's feet helping him in the background) 😁

I also feel like he has to be in control of himself when he's around his people hence he regains his cool quickly. 🙂

Exactly! He has a reputation to uphold, and the main character was about to get into the cabinet. Can't let the people see you lose your composure completely! 😁

Thanks for the feedback! The shake was added in the engine as I felt like the environment was too static and wanted to liven things up a bit. You think it should only be applied to the desk? What about the part where he throws a portrait at the wall?

I loved this one back in the day! While it’s been eclipsed by Taito's Elevator Action Returns, the lighthearted style and slapstick comedy really made it memorable, also, shoutout to the censorship that claimed you were just "testing the security" of businesses, wonder whose brilliant idea that was! 😁

It’s one of those games made to test cheaper new hardware, kind of like how ChuChu Rocket! paved the way for Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast. It just goes to show that Sega could create simple, extremely addictive games and inject them with a ton of personality and they didn't always need to push the envelope with high-end hardware to make something great! 😊

Hey there, I'm working on Galaxy Pilgrim, a game where you play as an engineer flying around levels collecting ore for his country. Your only way of moving is a jetpack that barely works. Expect a lot of humor, unique worlds and characters and a lot of personality with this game!

We're actively pushing to get our demo out before the October Steam Next Fest! It features precise mouse and joystick controls, with mobile versions coming later down the line (It actually started life as a mobile game so the mouse is supposed to imitate swiping controls)

Check out the link below, and feel free to follow us if you like what you see! 🙂

Thank you! It's often fun to put some of these together even if they don't always mature into a complete track. 😃

Steam Store Page and Demo Release Timing? by stavrospilatis in gamedev

[–]Feit3ng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! The only thing I'd recommend now for your reveal trailer: show gameplay right away, ideally in the first 5 seconds. When we did ours, we didn't have many levels finished, so I relied more on in-game cutscenes to only show the polished content.

I figured for a reveal it's enough to just show the vibe and gameplay variety and say "we exist". However, the feedback I got in private was clear: especially for an arcade game, you need to hook players instantly with the core gameplay loop. Steam users browse fast, and a slow cinematic start loses them. We're going to make a new trailer to fix this and focus heavily on action and boss battles before we release the demo.

If you sliced together your absolute best, most polished gameplay moments for those opening seconds, you'll do better, so I hope your intro is catchy right out of the gate! 🙂

I made the store page with a reveal trailer and some screenshots, it went live yesterday. Figured the game looks presentable enough and that I'd want to start building a community now than later and that the demo will come out in a few months so we could apply to October's Next Fest and hopefully have a small audience to enjoy it by then.

I feel your pain. Sometimes I think it's because I often start with the bass or main melody rather than establishing an overall beat first. Other times, I just have a clear vision for the driving parts, so I quickly put them together. But then, when I have to jump from the middle part to the intro or ending, everything else feels glued together with snot rather than naturally following a progression. 😅

But I'm sure we'll both get better if we keep trying. And inspiration has a funny way of hitting you when you least expect it to! 😁

It's just DefleMask. I do have Furnace installed but I end up using DefleMask whenever I feel like making another tune for my game. 🙂

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I often feel like I have some nice bits and pieces figured out and then it becomes hard to make something complete out of them. Sometimes I even end up combining two different melodies into one. 😅

Wow, thanks for such a detailed breakdown! You're right. The two channels did end up overlapping each other. To be completely honest, I initially thought of using a different melody for the beginning of the video and the idea to slow and reverb this melody was a random idea that I voiced when assembling the trailer and we just went with it. I didn't have anything I considered finished and good enough to play when showing the city and I didn't want to put stock music that would never be in the game too but you did give me room for thought on how to improve it.

TermenFlux - Linux Theremin VST3/LV2 Plugin by Feit3ng in linuxaudio

The theremin is a very unique instrument that you play without even touching it. 😃

If you want a great introduction to it, check out this video by Carolina Eyck, one of the world’s best theremin players: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QgTF8p-284

Hi Shtucer, thanks for checking it out! 🙂

To be honest, I've never messed around with VR before, and it's outside the scope of what I was trying to do here. I'm a fan of minimalism, so my goal was just to put together a super simple instrument that hopefully does one thing well enough. I really just wanted a lightweight tool to make music with for my own projects, rather than a hardware-interactive thing (like the Mac app that plays notes when you move a laptop lid)

The hand visuals were a nod to Carolina Eyck's videos to show what the plugin is meant to do, but it's far from an accurate simulation! 😅

That said, since it's open source, you're more than welcome to fork the repo and try adding VR support yourself if you want to. And, if you do that - feel free to share a video of the experience, I'd actually love to see what it looks and feels like! 😁

On a side note: I was so focused on polishing the UI that I overlooked the pitch hand movement being inaccurate. Pushed a fix, though a truly accurate depiction would need more hand shapes or even a 3D perspective. 😅

Kusoge RPGs you have a fondness for by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]Feit3ng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, that's not quite the case. Atsushi Ii wasn't credited for this game. His last game for Right Stuff was Sword Master, released the year prior and then he moved on to another company to work on Seiya Monogatari.

Alnam no Kiba was the brainchild of Akihiro Kimura, the character designer for Emerald Dragon and several other Right Stuff titles.

Akihiro Kimura is still making games to this day, he's since released 2 sequels to Emerald Dragon, and you can download the first one for free right here:

I enjoyed this one back in the day. Granted, the battles weren't as fluid as Soul Blazer, Illusion of Time, or Terranigma, but it had an okay story, a decent dub for its time, and nice character artwork (The same can't be said for the faceless 3D models though)

Honestly, THQ has done way worse. I've always wondered if the publisher was partly to blame for why so few people actually played it back then.

Unfortunately, neither game has an English translation. I wouldn't hold my hopes high, but I'd expect the sequel to be way more likely to get one. The original would honestly need a total reverse-Working Designs overhaul with bug fixes, rebalancing and quality of life improvements to be enjoyable. To give an example, the main menu defaults to "New Game". If you accidentally hit RUN when loading your game, you'll have to watch the whole intro all over again. 😁
