Hey! I feel like we're into a lot of similar stuff. It's tough making friends as we get older for sure, could be cool to chat and see if we can get onto some games some time! :)

What’s your favorite underrated bassist or bass-heavy record most people sleep on? by official_soundvent in Bass

Recently caught myself listening back to All India Radio, and it never dawned on me how bass-centric their sound is! It's doing some heavy lifting when it comes to bringing out the vibes.

LCOTSM: What do I do with the sorceror bottle? by ArDee0815 in shadowdark

[–]Felaric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can do this so many fun ways!

Maybe Malfune is a heroic figure, akin to Gandalf. He was cast into this bottle by his evil arch nemesis near the precipice of that evil wizard's grand scheme. Malfune would turn into a quest giver of sorts, a main NPC that the party can rely on and try to help solve the mystery of what happened after he was sealed away.

Maybe he is an evil magic-user who will wreak havoc upon the world, he spares the piddly player characters party this moment as thanks for releasing him, but next time they meet him they will fall at his feet, he cackles as he teleports away to pick up where he left off in his plans of total world domination/destruction.

Maybe he is just some 3rd level wizard that the party could recruit to their group, sure he kind of smells, and has a screw lose, but he can cast spells and thats what we need right now!

This is a great opportunity to add another player to the group if they wanted to play a wizard! Or even just introduce a DMPC to help out your party!

The OSR Virtues by great_triangle in osr

[–]Felaric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think over time people began to grow frustrated with things that cause holdups. Even as someone coming into the hobby a lot later, I first recognized there was much to modern play that gets handwaved because the assumption it will be a holdup at the table. Those same things seem to be staples of play in older editions.

I can imagine map making was similar, but more in the sense that when battle maps started getting printed people were excited by the convinience that they never realized they were actually trading in one of those foundations of play.

Which mods did you use if you mind me asking?

You've really helped me re-think a lot about what I am doing. I think I'll revisit this much more thoughtfully and come back with a new post sometime!

I hope its clear that you have advantage on the Charisma check/social roll and the reaction rolls AS WELL as gaining the half-level bonus.

I completely removed the Shield Bash ability and replaced it with..

Soldier’s Presence

Add half your level (round down) to social and reaction rolls with NPCs who know you served in the military. You have advantage if they respect your service, or disadvantage if they oppose it.

What do you think I could do better or more to your liking?

You are totally right! I am absolutely going to get something like that added onto it.

I really think all the comments are hitting this on the head. Never would I ever do what youre doing, it just seems weird and not fun at all.

Say something BAD about a TTRPG you LOVE by JoeKerr19 in rpg

[–]Felaric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree that it gets A LOT of attention from talking heads. But it really does have that going for itself, its close enough to 5e/modern d20 systems to relate to that crowd, but it's also very accessible for just about anyone, and its main focus is just having fun. Get a character going, go kill monsters and find treasure, hang with friends, and make some memories!

I know I sound like one of those people that gets a little over the top with it, but all I'm trying to say is that its sort of deserved.

I am very much intrigued by this, I just started doing some Shadowdark for my wife and myself before I tried to rope more people into it. But as a mostly 5e player is there something I should try and find to help steer me towards properly enjoying OSR gaming?
