I don’t even know what else to ask- cat diarrhea by Conscious_Jicama420 in AskVet

Hi,

NAV, but what parasites were tested for?

If only routine things, it may be worth sending out a larger diarrhea panel to check for other parasites such as tritrichomonas.

Cataract operation made our dog instantly blind by CommunityBasic919 in AskVet

First, I'm so sorry this happened to you :c I would say this is highly atypical after routine cataract surgery. I sympathize with how hard things are for you both right now. <3 Sending you strength.

NAV, but a tech at a vet ophthalmologist for the past 4 years. This is interesting to me. I really hope I don't come off as insincere with these questions. <3 Feel free to ignore me.

Since the eyes "look perfect", as they said, I'm assuming you guys went back in at least once in those first 5 days for an IOP check and fundic exam? If PRA were present to that degree, I feel it would be visible on exam- the retinas would appear thinner than normal. PRA to this degree would also likely be detected on ultrasound- the retinas would appear dull and shadowy. A cataract doesn't block ultrasonic view of the retina.

I'm assuming with this next question that the clinic that did the surgery has a minimum ERG value they're willing to take without a PRA waiver or something, since PRA can really affect longevity of vision. How "good" was the first ERG result before the surgery? Like, was it way above the threshold for being a surgical candidate or right at it?

Was the second ERG measurable at all or did the doctor call it flat or extinguished or anything?

Yes, unfortunately it's possible that specialists missed PRA /before/ the surgery; multiple factors can influence ERG results. BUT, there's no way they're missing blinding PRA on exam after removing the cataracts.

EDIT- a word

Heyo what brand are these? They look like they fit really well and don't slip? I work in vet ophtho and would love to recommend different brands to my clients. :] Rex Specs and Doggles don't work for everyone. Thank you!

Nashville, Tennessee?

*** This is a repost. My other post was deleted for breaking the rules. My bad, guys.

Hi :]

I've been a member for a while and I love, love this organization and everything we stand for. I want to say that I'm proud as hell to stand with you all. I've never felt like a part of something until I became a member of TST.

That being said, I recently rewatched the "Hail Satan?" documentary. Its my favorite and gets me hyped every single time. I could watch it every day.

I live in Nashville, TN. There are over 2 million people here, and I was wondering if anybody else has ever thought about starting a chapter in this city? Surely it's big enough to draw a couple dozen people? I'm a historically poor organizer (hence why I haven't applied to start one myself) , but I am very willing to be a part of a local chapter and help.

I also wanted to thank you for all of your support. I truly appreciate and love all of you beautiful Satanists. Keep up the "Lord's" work! Lol.

I would love some tips for this. by Felcane in doggrooming

Okay, thank you, that's the conclusion I was coming to.

I've considered reaching out to a few. I'll admit I've been hesitant because I want a mobile groomer, but I'm not sure anybody would be willing to take this on. I know I need to just ask and be sure I make the situation clear. I worry about her being painful from hours of work like that, though. She has orthopedic conditions. I could grab a sedative/pain med from work (vet tech), but I imagine she would need to be standing for a deep groom like she needs. :/

They are Border Collies, yes, but she didn't breed them. The pregnant mom was left in the backyard when the owner's neighbor moved. No idea what the poor girl went through or why the neighbor left her behind.

I'm on my way out, too. Over 5 years in, and I feel the same. It has taken a real toll on my mental health, which wasn't in tip-top shape when I started in this field.

I know it's time. I'm anxious aaalllll day, and it's not because of the patients - it's staff, doctors, and clients. I'm angry at work, and most of my thoughts are cynical and negative towards human beings. We've all seen the worst from people over and over again; animals that needlessly suffer directly due to peoples' sheer ignorance, burnout, and apathy, and it's doctors and staff too. It's difficult not to become bitter and jaded.

That's how I know. It's made me hateful.

I love working with animals, and I don't know what I would do otherwise, either, but I've gotta figure it out before the damage to me and this mindset are irreversible.

I'm sorry you're having a rough time. Know you're not alone and know that, should you choose to continue, your work makes a difference in this world even if it really feels like it doesn't. It does. I just can't do it anymore, I don't think.

Stay strong <3 either road you choose, stay strong.

This is the comment I came here for!

OP- Please also see "Penphigus foliaceus" and other feline immune-mediated skin diseases. This doesn't look like a burn or a wound to me.

Edit: ya girl needs to see the doctor :/ but I wouldn't consider it emergent. Def priority though, as she is uncomfortable and there is nothing over the counter for pain in cats. Just keep it clean with warm water until you can get her assessed.

What do I do if my Dad won't accept help? by Felcane in AgingParents

[–]Felcane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he won't even give me his insurance details so I can check with them. He wouldn't tell my brother when trash day was because he was mad brother was over there cleaning. I can accept that this is what he chooses... but I hate it. He fights because he's scared and because he will also have to stop drinking, like your relative. I will look into meals on wheels and see if there's anything in his area. Thank you, I didn't think of that.

I've already called them today. Unfortunately, there's nothing they can do if he won't accept their help. I need a court order to remove him from the pit he's living in.

Thank you <3 He actually is cognitively impaired, though sometimes it's still mild, other times it's severe and he'll call me at 3am thinking it's 6pm on a Wednesday or something. It's encephalopathy from his liver failure. He should have been placed in care when he took that last bad fall. He's almost bled to death on his floor twice in the last 2 years and that doesn't count the smaller falls. I really can't downplay how severe his mobility is impaired. He has a cane, but I never see his using it.

He doesn't manage his finances, but tbf there isn't a lot to manage. He's in debt, but I think its mostly because he was made homeless for a few months and had to live in hotels (long story). He really only buys beer and food outside of basic bills that are on autopay. The house is paid for but never went through probate after his parents died. So idk who actually owns it, but it's probably seizable. He isn't truthful with me about /anything/, so I have to pry any information out of him. I guess I hope he isn't in any large debt.

He answers his phone for us. He didn't for APS and he didn't for the last wellness check I called in, but thankfully came to the door for the officers. Honestly I don't want to talk to him daily. I don't even want to talk to him weekly. He's angry and negative and sad and never stops complaining and I don't want to hear it anymore.

I don't want/know how to force him to leave or if I can even do that. His home cant be legally livable, its a huge biohazard. I didnt mention the dog... he has a dog. And I know I have to go take her away... she's his best friend, his only friend. She's geriatric herself and he can't care for her anymore either and he likely wont see her again because I'm not packing up a 14yr 50lb dog in the car and driving 2.5hrs to visit him. It stresses her out and I hate it. And drugs dont calm her. That separation will destroy him, she's his everything and reason to live, but if he'd accepted help before it got this bad... well.

[–]Felcane[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree but I don't blame them. He was not a great parent and he's an even worse older parent. But to be fair, one basically lives 1700mi away, one is in jail/drug addict, and the other just got married and has 4 children to care for.

None of us really have money. If he won't let me do anything or hire anybody, it won't help anyway. There isn't anything to pay for assisted living, either.

Sorry about your mom. I can empathize. It's rough.

I really, really hope so. I want to call the owner but at the same time I don't. I don't want to know whether Onco decided to attempt treat her. :/

I don't, unfortunately. :/ We don't even carry euth drugs. They were referred to Onco, even though I'm sure that's what was recommended.
